Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to the DiU live action movie!!! Wow guys, I've gotta say - that was even better than I thought it would be!!! I kinda love how they fleshed out the story with the grandpa!!! And Tomoko and Josuke talking about Joseph, Jotaro speaking to Joseph in English, etc.....like all the things they added were basically good things! And they didn't change much that they didn't have to. The dialogue, fights, etc. mostly play out by the book (except for that last fight....WHOA I was not expecting that)!!!! Overall I thought this was tons of fun! I hope you enjoy it too!!! ~ MH

2024-05-25 15:08:29 +0000 UTCYay! :D I like the movie and have it on dvd, so I'll watch it rn. But also - when you're not too busy with Steel!Ball!Run!(which is wonderful imho), try watching 1993's JoJo's OVAs (Stardust Crusaders). Pretty pls, watch them someday. :) also, did you watch Rohan OVAs? They're canon, so watch them sometime, they're pretty fun. :D

2024-05-17 19:55:07 +0000 UTCYay!!! OMG!! Good luck with everything! It sounds really swamped! Sorry it took me a bit to get back to you too! Hope the sweet fifteen went great! :D I'm so happy you liked it! That's just what I thought too - everything was pretty much spot on! That's the thing, the changes were really only so that they could literally do the movie haha, not anything done out of artistic license or anything. I love the emphasis on Josuke's family more!!! Yeah the translucent look really helped, I agree! Star Platinum was the one that I was like "hmmm" haha but Crazy Diamond looked really good the more I saw him! OMG live action Sex Pistols, I would diieeeee!!! The soldiers went pretty hard here! Yeah they killed it with the drama here! Yeah the way they kinda used The Hand on everything between here and Kira was not expected hahaha :P I'm glad you liked it and the way I summed it up!! Yeah I either don't hear much or hear really mixed things but I agree, this was really really fun!!!! So happy you got a chance to watch it with me!!!

2024-05-15 13:47:20 +0000 UTCI finally got a chance to watch this. Final week of college and family matters involving a sweet fifteen had me busy. But anyways forget good, this was great. I’ll give it a 8.5! I was hoping for so stupid that it was good but it wasn’t even that. I think it was spectacular. Just way better than what I was expecting. No surprise that the actors took their roles seriously but they seemed to really understand that. They nailed it. I was a bit worried about Okuyasu at first but he ended up great. Koichi sounded exactly like Koichi. Josuke’s didn’t have a hair out of place. Jotaro looked 🔥. It was just fantastic. You can’t be mad at the changes because they made responsible changes to it which do make sense. They did more with characters like Yukako and Gramps which I thought made absolute sense and did more for a stand alone live action. They added what I think needed to be added to develop Morioh’s characters alone. I also think it was a nice touch to not have the stands be completely solidly present. The shadowy quick figures definitely worked bests. To me it added a more realistic touch to it. Star Platinum I thought looked okay. Crazy Diamond looked phenomenal! So did the Hand 🖐️. The soldiers were my favorite. They didn’t have to go that awesomely hard with them but seeing them has me aching to see the Sex Pistols from part 5. The soldiers added an element of danger to things which elevated excitement. I think depending on the stands themselves, it’ll transfer the way it’s going too but a whole lot of them looked good. The last scenes with the family drama and photo were nailed perfectly. I couldn’t agree more on how they adapted that part. Given this is a live action I don’t they’d cover everything but I was not expecting them to cut to Kira. I actually was not expecting Kira at all but that was wild. I think you hit on everything that needed to be so I won’t repeat but I really loved it. I mean if people don’t talk about this that much I’m assuming they didn’t dig it as much but I was having fun with it. I think it’s probably the fault of anime Jojo fans because that was great. It’s a win for me. Two thumbs up 👍 👍

2024-05-12 14:04:55 +0000 UTCYeah, that was probably my biggest critique, that newcomers really wouldn't know what the fudge was going on haha. It's tough with Part 4, because you still have so many ties to past parts. Part 5, Dio bloodline and arrow story aside, may have been a better choice, but I still really enjoyed this movie! That's so true that the style really fits! This was called Chapter 1, so I think they were at least hoping for a sequel. It is a shame to skip RHCP/Akira though! I haven't read Part 8 yet but I know a small part of the basic premise (basically just that Jojo has amnesia I think??). A Netflix show could be cool since I hear it's a mystery! If they decided to adapt Part 8 for live action anytime soon, it's pretty likely we'd get that before the anime version at the rate they're going with Part 7 haha. OMG I actually am kinda curious about this hat hair situation now haha! What!? That poor guy!!!!!!

2024-05-08 14:36:29 +0000 UTCHonestly... This was a weird choice to adapt. Like I get Parts 1-3 would probably be more of a nightmare to try and handle, rather than Part 4 where it takes place in Japan. And while it doesn't have too much of a heavy connection to earlier parts... Well, it's still there. It's still kind of needed. For Jojo fans who have seen the show or read the manga, that's not much of a problem because you know what happened before. For people going into this movie completely blind with no prior Jojo knowledge... I'd feel like it'd be a bit of a problem. I'd say Jojo at least fits the Director's style. I've seen the Pheonix Wright movie, and while its not bad... I just feel like the tone of it doesn't capture the game's spirit. Here, the style fits. It's a shame that they skipped Akira, but I get it. It'd be easier to make a movie trilogy(??? I can't remember what exactly they planned for this, but it was definitely more movies for sure.) without him taking up precious time. It's a shame this is as much of live action Kira as we're going to get though. ...Honestly I feel like they should try to adapt Part 8 into a live action movie, or even a netflix show like One Piece. While there are connections to Part 7, I don't feel like they're as jarring to someone who hasn't read any earlier parts of Jojo. ...That and it takes place in Japan again. ...Also you do not want to see what Jotaro's actor had to do for his Jotaro hat-hair. ...Or maybe you do, because it's hilarious. 😂Dude looks like he's balding SO bad.

2024-05-08 12:31:57 +0000 UTCI could see that, although they're about to be spoiled on much of the part anyway if they're watching this, but still :P It's always tricky adapting something for live action and having to fit so much into a 2 hour movie like you said. That's true, it's nice to be able to expand on something and/or bring something new to the story. What can I say, my Stand doesn't control the length of movies, so it can't be helped. :P I love the idea of ranking the themes! I'm actually planning on doing an assortment of rankings, so themes should definitely be in there! Thanks!

2024-05-07 14:26:09 +0000 UTCHey Leonie!!! I'm so glad you liked it, I had the same experience! I really didn't expect to like it as much as I did! I agree about the looks, although it did stand out to me that Jotaro's actor looked a bit too old for Part 4 Jotaro (he'd make a great Part 6 like you said). I didn't even think of that with Koichi but you're right! He was a bit more toned down when it comes to the more panicky aspect of early Koichi lol. I also didn't think about that with the tanned skin tones, but yeah, Morioh being a seaside town and all, it does kinda make sense. Josuke's actor was so cute and so was Okuyasu's, although the voice thing is a bit hard to get past, I get it! There were a few times he really sounded like him so that's helped me. OMG I was totally thinking that Morioh looked a bit European but I wasn't sure if that would sound silly lol, because I've only ever seen a big city in Japan and wasn't sure if this was what a small town really looked like there. But from what I've seen in anime and tv, I think you're right that maybe they purposely set this somewhere that looked that way as a nod to Araki's love of Italy or something! I agree about the pacing, timing, fights, etc. Yeah I wasn't sure how I felt about the Stands at first but the more I saw them, the better I liked them! So true, there's a lot worse CGI out there than that! You had pretty much the same critiques as me!! I'd love for them to have gotten more into the background, but seeing as how they're starting off in Part 4, I guess I get why they couldn't do that in one movie. And yeah, Sheer Heart Attack really threw me off, as you could see haha. I'd be really curious to see how they were planning on explaining that in Chapter 2 - it's too bad we never got one. I loved seeing Josuke's grandpa more! His death was so sad and maybe even sadder as a result. Exactly, they got to take more time with character building and emotion here. So true, when it's a movie you have a bit more flexibility as opposed to being tied to the genre. And Josuke's name origin was sweet too! That's awesome, I'm so glad you enjoyed it and would recommend it! I'm really excited to share more Jojo content with you!!! ^_^

2024-05-07 14:23:39 +0000 UTCI don’t THINK this will be an issue for 98% of the viewership - but I’m thinking you may want to put a disclaimer on this video because I was thinking - on the off chance someone watches this BEFORE getting into the actual part in the anime, you’re pretty much spoiling the farm out of it. (Also that’s probably my chief reason to be worried about you reading ahead in the manga first, but that’s a different but similar topic which we sent discussing here.) Seeing a live action version of something you’ve already seen is interesting… but when the characters are already so locked into your head it can be a bit of a stretch to accept a look different than what you’re used to. I believe Part 4 was 39 episodes? I might be off by 1… but that’s about 975 minutes of content. As opposed to 120 here - so you can see just how much they have to trim - not just for runtime but also make sure a non-series watcher is able to follow as well. My theory is some of the new scenes were either not adapted or Araki wanted to flesh out certain characters (such as the grandpa) and give them more of a presence while they were on screen. Because if you just go everything best by beat you’re not really presenting anything new. By the way you said “a little extra content” and dropped 2.5 hours. I think perhaps you’re unaware of the passage of time when you’re doing JoJo related stuff… (either that or you swiped Jotaro’s Stand.) By the way, who’s this DIO character? :P Here’s something you can think about in the meantime however… ranking the different opening themes for the show so far. 🙃

2024-05-07 05:30:52 +0000 UTCHey Melissa, wow was that movie an experience in itself. I really didn't expect to like the movie as much as I did. It really has some positive things about it. The first positive thing I would like to point out is that the actors really looked like the characters from the anime (if you exclude Koichi). The only thing I didn't find quite so fitting was that Jotaro looked a bit too old for me personally. The actor would have fit much better as Part 6 Jotaro. Because considering that Jotaro is supposed to be 28 years old in Part 4, the actor was a bit too old for him. But that's about the only criticism I have about the actors. I have to admit that I found the movie Koichi much more likeable than the one in the anime. In the anime, Koichi often annoyed me because his voice was so high-pitched and he was always screaming. But the Koichi in the movie here was actually very cool and realistic and less annoying. That's why I really give the actor the credits for it. Josuke's actor was also really well done. I also found it very interesting that all the Japanese actors had more of a darker skin color than you would expect from Japanese people. But that also makes sense, as they live by the sea and the sunlight is much more intense there than in the country. So it also makes sense that they have slightly darker skin. But in terms of looks, I actually liked Keicho the most. I found the actor quite attractive and very well chosen for the role. Okuyasu was also pretty cute. The only thing that made me a bit uneasy was his voice, as it didn't quite suit him. I also found Morioh as a city very exciting. They didn't go into as much detail as we're used to in Part 4 about how Morioh is structured and so on. But I have to admit, I didn't imagine Morioh to be like this. To me, it looked more like a European town on the coast. It reminded me a lot of Italian seaside towns. It was probably a tribute to Araki, because he loves Italy so much. For the fact that the movie ran for two hours, they actually included a lot of content and gave the whole story its own structure, one that made sense. I thought the Angelo fight was pretty good. The whole setting in general, the set up was really well done. I also had no problem at all with the CGI Stands. Considering what Marvel and all the other major studios are doing with CGI in their movies at the moment, what we saw in the movie was actually a masterpiece. It looked very similar to the anime/manga. And the sound effects were also extremely well done. My two criticisms of the movie are firstly that, as you said, if someone is not familiar with Jojo, they have no understanding of what it's all about. It wasn't really explained what Stands are, where they come from and how the system itself works. Also, the whole bloodline with the Joestars wasn't even remotely mentioned, which I think is a shame on the one hand, but it makes sense somewhere that they didn't explain everything, that they only wanted to focus on Part 4. That would have been quite a lot of content to squeeze into one movie. The other criticism is the appearance of Sheer Heart Attack and thus changing the entire story. That doesn't really make any sense to me. I thought it was really great that they gave the characters more depth here and there, especially in the case of Josuke's grandpa, who we hardly got to know at all in the anime. I was also really sad to see him die again, as they have characterized him better. I also thought the other new elements they brought in, like the origin of Josuke's name, were very cool. I think they were able to take their time with it because the movie wasn't so focused on the Shonen trope. And because of that, they were able to incorporate more Slice of Life in it. Probably that's one of the benefits of making a movie that isn't 100% tied to one genre. Overall, I would recommend this movie to any Jojo fan who wants to see some extra Jojo content. I would give the movie an 8/10 as it entertained me very well, added new interesting aspects to the story, but it also had some criticisms. I'm glad to see that you enjoyed it too and I'm excited to see what other Jojo content you have in store for us.
