Hey everyone! Meet my sweet kitty Jiji (pronounced Gigi). I named her after the kitty in Kiki’s Delivery Service. Has anyone seen that movie?
I met this sweet baby by the dumpster in the parking lot area outside my apartment building. I fed her some sardines. She sat in my lap and purred. When it was time to go back inside she followed. I let her inside my place and she snuggled me for hours so I decided to at least go get a few basics like a few cans of food and a litter box until I can go get her scanned for microchips to be sure she’s a proper stray. Every night since she first arrived she’s snuggled me to sleep. Sometimes she lays beside me. Sometimes she lays on top of my chest or on my feet or in between my legs. She’s the sweetest baby. She entertains me every evening while she goes crazy playing. I couldn’t have asked for a better kitty! I believe she’s a kitten… probably almost a year old but a bit under.
I did check her for microchips and there wasn’t any. She didn’t have a collar so I’ll keep a look out for missing cat signs, but I think she’s a stray which means she gets to live with me! She hasn’t wanted to go outside or leave either. She seems really happy here. There’s been crazy rains all over California, including Los Angeles. I’m so happy she found a home before those started up. There were a ton of flash flood warnings all over LA last night. The thought of her being in that made me so sad.
I did buy her a harness so I’d be able to take her outside to the park and stuff once she’s used to feeling of the harness. I don’t think she’d run off from me if I went outside with me. I think she’d stay around me cause she follows me everywhere but I’m concerned about what would happen if something spooked her badly. So, that’s why I want to try and leash train her. I want her to still get to experience the outside world but in a safe way where she won’t get lost and can still have a nice warm home with lots of food to come home to afterwards. If I had a backyard and a front door or back door that led to outside, I would let her out on her own with our information attached to her and listen for her meow at the door when she comes home, but living in an apartment, I don’t really have that option. So, that’s my update on my new kitty!
