About eight years ago now, I guess, for a brief time I tried making music for commercials. IT'S A CHUMP'S GAME, I tell ya! Ad agencies would send out calls for some particular kind of thing, and anybody could submit a sample .. from the musician's point of view, what happens is you bust your ass writing & recording a track for the deadline, which is usually pretty short (2 weeks was the longest I ever saw) and you never get paid, because the client only buys the one they like - out of who knows how many submissions.
This is one I made for a client whom I won't identify (but they have the word "America" in their name) who wanted an "emotional, dignified, folksy" sound for a one-minute spot. I slapped this together and submitted it.
The story continues ...
