Read the book, don’t watch the film. The arguments he made in his book have been made by many Appalachians for generations now. Also, he blamed systemic factors (eg factories leaving, neoliberalism) at least as much as cultural/personal ones. I’m open to the possibility that he sucks in several other ways, but I do think he cares about his people and his book touched on a lot of hard truths. Sadly, the movie totally missed the point and was indeed pretty offensive to Appalachians

2025-03-19 14:57:48 +0000 UTCMany Chinese EVs are good. Lots of reviewers are saying the Xpeng G6 is better than both the current and updated Tesla Model 3. Tesla puts Chinese batteries into it's models not going to the US because Chinese batteries are currently the best and safest. Tesla weren't putting them in the US models because they would miss out on the Biden rebates if they did. On the topic of vehicle fires the most likely vehicle to catch fire is a hybrid followed by a petrol/diesel, and least likely is an EV. Check the stats. Also watch a walk through of the recent Everything Electric EV Show in Sydney. Ecotricity NZ is probably the most fun to watch because of the mafia test. I think you've got some catching up to do on what EVs are like now.
