Gas crisis: typically worse than useless Morrison govt went with 'Gas led recovery' announceable - what did other Govts do? Green infrastructure including retrofitting houses and replacing appliances to make them more energy efficient - and that is the best thing right now for individuals and the country to weather this crisis - to have reduced your energy demands. Ex Morrison govt should be shamed much more for those stupid idealogical choices that will cost almost everyone more now. What can be done? Individuals and businesses who can afford to install solar, energy efficient devices and change over from gas to electric devices should- for both their own and general benefit of drawing less from the grid. Recall Japan's response to Fukishma which was using energy efficiency to help manage reduced power reserves. Not quite explained on pod, but what we have is less coal electricity being made because of scheduled and unscheduled maintenance (ie breaking down), coal being more expensive because production is down because of flooding in both Australia and Indonesia hitting supply, and super expensive world price gas (the Ukraine) not only for those who regularly use it but also to make up for the shortfall of coal electricity production. The less energy we use from the grid the less super expensive gas we need to need to prop up the expensive coal electricity production. Btw big solar, wind and hydro are producing the same volumes to supply the main grid as usual. If we get another La Nina coal flooding and high prices may continue into 2023. Meanwhile AEMO is preparing for the grid to be running on 100% renewables at times of peak supply from 2025. Expect change, like big batteries and grid forming inverters.
