So while I was in Chicago (and adjacent areas), I got to hang out with SweetSourMD and DaroFromTarget (eeeeee i love them). They drove over to see me because I wasn't feeling well. I was supposed to visit them but i missed every morning bus. They hung out with me a bit before taking me to see Sinners while Moosh cooked dinner. (And I really walked out the house without my purse?? 😬)

We pulled up a lil late (I had to wash 4 more dishes, then we walked into the wrong movie at first, and then i had to find the bathroom), so I missed the beginning. But the immersion was immediate. There was a snake on the screen. I had to pay attention! 😂 Plus, I ended up sitting next to the youngest of a group of young white boys. I don't think he was old enough to be in there, honestly. The discomfort during some parts was palpable. And I understood, especially near the end.

I really enjoyed the use of sound - the layering, the placement, the emphasis - to better drive home certain moments, reflections, and conversations. I also appreciated the vignettes. Especially since I missed the very beginning, and some of the important bits of context for how they got in that shituation.

The posts I've been seeing on BlueSky - various quotes, jokes, praise, and observations of moviegoers - make a lot more sense now. I understand why people want the vinyl, the blu-ray, the film strips, the IMAX experience. I'm debating going again, honestly. While im not inclined to cry too many more times, there are a few scenes I need to experience again. And at least once more with my eyes closed.

I hope I get to watch Ironheart and everything else he decides to work on. Even if it brings me nightmares, I might have to just watch anyway. I love how tenderly this film was brought to life. The attention to detail, the appreciation for history and accuracy, and the overall balance. Yea, I gotta watch it again.
