WIP WEDNESDAY: Blu

Hey hey. Been a minute since i shared a WIP 😅
SO here's something I worked on yesterday: Blu. It's a blue shell at the blue sanded beach.

I did work from reference, which can be seen in the first "in progress" photo. I think it might be a lighting welk, but it could also be a pear welk. I genuinely don't even remember when I got this. I just know I've had it for years -- close to a decade, if not already.

Honestly, when I sat down with the canvas, I thought I was gonna paint something super abstract. That was not the case. My mind went blank. But I really, really, really needed to do something to shake this lingering sadness I've been battling.

I think the shell came out because 1 - I looked around the room and grabbed any thing, and 2 - I'm long overdue for a visit with the ocean. I was and still am wary about going alone, but with this new phone (thanks again, yall), I'm less worried about going out there. I may go for a walk this weekend.

Lastly, about the blue color.... uh... Animal Crossing, I guess. Like, I used watercolor because it's disolvable with water, the pencils are erasable and it's just a great color layer. I actually intended for the shell to be the natural color, but I didn't really feel like doing that. I also really miss doing monochromatic (and photo negative) style art. So I said, "eff it, we're gonna do blue." And did. 😂

I think I'll add some actual shimmer to the shell to make it pop more. Also, the next time I do this, I'll likely do the color background first? And with watercolor. This wasn't difficult, but the marker I used.... I made it a bit too streaky for my liking. So I'm debating going back over it..... I dunno. I'll keep ya posted.
