Dude...I was literally thinking this exact same thing. I know they don't like that kind of plot device but them saying it's unnecessary or random is so off base. It was established in the first episode that he's a coward and that he has self esteem issues. In every fight this season he NEVER fought without the goggles. Even in the fight with ED he put them on when he got his sword. The idea that it was shoe horned in out of nowhere just isn't true. I've seen a few reactions to this and they were all slightly different but none of them were surprised by what happened to Will. Literally the moment the glass shattered everyone knew he was gonna cripple.

2024-10-11 22:39:12 +0000 UTCSo I feel like you might've misunderstood the whole Goggles thing. He didn't lose it because it was a gift from Elfie. He's a coward by nature, facing enemies head on is terrifying, but those goggles calm him. They remind him of the promise they made and what he's fighting for. It's like a safe space for him. When they broke, he lost that safety, that comfort. The fear overcame him. So he needed Sion to slug him to effectively reset his brain and clear his head so that he could see the reason he needed to be brave and fight right there and then.
