2024-04-19 00:00:08 +0000 UTCWith regards to Lakan & Fengxian, only with regards to what's in this episode, Lakan thought he'd only be gone abroad for 6 months or so, which in the grand scheme of things when he could only see her every 3 months, he'd only miss maybe two visits and then he'd be back. And keep in mind his father was the one that sent him and he didn't object because his father was the head of the family and his boss, he didn't really want to go. Instead he was unexpectedly gone for 3 years which made everything worse. He was only thinking about Go & Chess because he just didn't consider that anything would actually change between them aka a baby, he could only see her as his money allowed so their relationship was basically stagnant. It's implied in this episode that Fengxian purposefully got herself pregnant so that her price would plummet and Lakan would be able to buy her out. The Granny wasn't just upset that he got her pregnant, she was upset because she knew that the two of them were in love and Fengxian did it on purpose, but Lakan was gone for three whole years without a word as if he didn't care at all. And that is what really made her angry IMO. Verdigris House's name was dragged through the mud because a courtesan got pregnant, but on top of that Fengxian's gamble was all for nothing making the whole situation bad. All because Lakan's father sent him away for so long after his Uncle brought disgrace on the family.
