Hey friends,
Hope you’re all hanging in there. I am trying to write this newsletter while also learning the Jumanji line dance and also watching my son Cal Raleigh hit 49 home runs. So as you can imagine, I am very focused and will make no mistakes.
This week on the show, it was a joy and and honor to chat with organizer-writer-comedian-etc Morgan Bassichis! We’ve got a particularly excellent topic list for this one, so if you’ll indulge me… topics include:
Frank Maya, personalized Bar Mitzvah boxers, the Gay Who Cried Wolf, the Lavender Hill Commune, Gen Z organizers, hairdresser-assigned gender, folktales and magic spells, the Faggots & Their Friends musical, the power of Director Love, an erotic relationship with a ghost(?), lessons from decades of organizing, Jews vs Catholics, “maybe more laughter,” more thoughts on Marshafication, meal trains for creative projects, tips for intergenerational queer friendships, a listener letter about “Free Palestine” in a gender podcast, the impulse to perform a comedy show in This Political Moment, and more importantly…. Which gay should we vote back into the closet??? And much more also!!!!!
Morgan will be performing Can I Be Frank? at the SoHo Playhouse through September 13! We’ll also have a special bonus podcast next week (on the main feed) that features even more Morgan wisdom.
Meanwhile, on Gender Conceal, we’ll be sharing an interview with Mexico-based filmmaker Kani Lapuerta. If you’re up for two minutes of homework, you can watch the trailer for Kani’s film Niñxs to get ready for the episode! :)
In other news, Sex Change and the City is almost ready to go to print, and we are finally available in the big book-buying database! That means that you should now be able to request a copy through your local bookstore or library, if you choose. If you’re not based in the US, I believe you can still grab a copy via Barnes & Noble, although I have no concept of how much shipping might cost.
(Also, weekly reminder, you can get 10% off your order in the Girl Dad Press store with the code “PERVERT”!)
Okay, let’s do Links & Stuff:
My roommate was looking for bagels and found something extremely powerful that captivated a tiny corner of the internet
A new version of the Actions That Are Not Protesting or Voting list dropped!!! I hope you’ll take a look.
My suggested Instagram reels include a lot of trick shot videos, so I enjoyed this peek into the lives of professional trickshotters.
I got sucked into this piece about Americans moving to Italy with the promise of €1 houses.
Proud/horrified to report that I got 5/5 correct on this quiz (gift link)
That’s it for this week. Here’s your Weekly Rhubarb, courtesy of my downstairs neighbor.

Photo: Ruby climbing on wooden patio furniture in a yard filled with ferns.
And also Puffin, ofc.

Photo: Puffin laying on her back into a dramatic candy-cane shape, with her hind legs and back vertical and then her upper torso and neck curved so that her head is almost fully upside-down.
