Hey friends,
Hope you’re all hanging in there. It’s been cloudy and drizzly for like a week and my brain has reverted back to its old ways — namely, saying “I should throw myself in to the ocean” every time I experience a teeny tiny inconvenience.
Speaking of which. Hey. Please get ur tix to our final Gender Ordeal show at the Bell House before I throw myself into the ocean :) :) :) :) We’ll have special guests Chris Renfro (from Oh Mary!) and — breaking news — Esther Fallick (from comedy) and more to be announced! I know there’s one million things to do every day and also some of you freaks like to stay home, but it’s the last time this show will ever be performed and it would just be so cool if people. Came. To the show.
Did I mention that the Brooklyn show is on May 9? That’s less than one month away. And our Chicago and Minneapolis shows are in less than one fortnight, which btw is soon. Actually, damn, I should write the games for those. Anyone have ideas for a new way to make Mattie and Calvin fight onstage???
Tickets are genderpodcast.com/live, u know the drill, sorry to everyone who doesn’t live in these places and has to hear me talk about this constantly but also u could visit!!!! I don’t have plans for future Gender Reveal live shows either, so this is kind of it indefinitely. Which is sad, for me!!! But also a very silly thing to care about during societal collapse so nbd!!!!!!!
ANYWAY. Next week on the show, I’m excited to share my conversation with author Caro De Robertis. We mostly talk about their new oral history book, So Many Stars, which is composed of interviews with trans / genderqueer / two-spirit elders of color. There’s also some sweet later-in-life transition talk at the beginning, and also some spicy personal gossip from Caro at the very end, which was thrilling to me, a nosy person.
A secret is that this book was pitched to us by a PR person, and I sent it to Ozzy like “probably will never look at this but fyi” (nothing personal, we just get a LOT of PR pitches!), and they were like “no this is actually really good” and so I requested the book and read it and I really loved it! Ozzy is so wise, is what I’m saying. The book comes out in a month but you can pre-order it now. :)
Okay I am feeling physically pretty Bad (and once again asking someone to bring me a 17th kombucha, that will fix me) so hopefully I did not have anything else important to say? Let’s do Links & Stuff.
Listen:
These two gladie songs are really hitting right now just fyi! I just added one to my most recent playlist which btw is here when u need it.
Exploration: Live! is always so soothing but I found last month’s episode with Pierce Campion to be legit very thought-provoking??? And now I’m realizing I forgot most of the takeaways so I will have to listen again. But it was good I promise.
Science Vs put out a new episode that fact-checks common assertions about ADHD, and it's always nice to have fact checks instead of only tiktoks :)
Everything else:
Another week, another link to Maia Kobabe’s patreon! I really appreciated eir post of banned book resources & talking points.
Did you see that the FBI has been running a money laundering ring for like a year? lol.
Baseball is back and a new gay baseball moment just dropped.
Tuck’s Creature Corner:
Thank u to Miranda for sending these frogs. I simply cannot believe how cool frogs are!! Every single one is the coolest one I’ve ever seen??? I just. Frogs. Wow.
That’s it for this week. Dusty is home with his mom, but I’ve still got pics in the bank, so here’s your Weekly Rhubarb featuring Dusty.
Image: A low-res photo of Ruby upside-down on a wooden chair, playing with Dusty who is on the ground. Dusty looks stressed but I promise u he started it.
Xo,
Yr resident gender detective
