Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there. I spent the first half of the week laughing at replies to the Fire Island Bechdel Tweet and the second half trying to [redacted personal quest], but I still managed to squeeze in two interviews that are coming out later this month! (Click here for a spoiler.)

Our episode this week features Jeopardy icon Amy Schneider, who very gamely (get it?) talked to us about all sorts of non-Jeopardy topics, like why so many trans women code; which 20th-century novelist was trans; and whether it’s gay to want a green couch. (We did also get some fun Jeopardy goss, for folks who are into that sort of thing.)

I just saw that Amy tweeted about the podcast but tagged a gender reveal party account instead of us? To which I can only say… lol, lmao. But she also posted a pic of her NEW KITTEN, who she mentioned on the pod!

Hey, I keep meaning to tell y'all about this: NCTE is planning to do a new trans census in 2022. The previous trans census was way back in 2015, and journalists / politicians / activists / etc still cite that data all the time, so it’s really important that we (U.S.-based transes) all show up for this new census. You can sign up for updates here.

Next week on the show, we’ve got iconic thot Fran Tirado!!!!! Fran was originally booked for episode 69 (nice), but had to drop at the last minute due to the covid of it all. But it worked out for the best because we’ve both Grown A Lot since then, and I’m delighted to have her on episode uhhhh 123 instead.

I’ve been hoping that someone to write a thoughtful profile of Molly Cameron for like six years at this point, and I’m so happy that Gender Reveal alum Frankie de la Cretaz finally did it!
I already plugged Fire Island last week, but this week I’m plugging E. Alex Jung’s masterful profile of Joel Kim Booster as well as his conversation with Andrew Ahn. (They both have Pokémon hiding in there, what more could you want?)
Friend of the show Jaya has two stories in the 2022 edition of Best American Food Writing and they’re both iconic in very different ways. I think I’ve plugged the Margaritaville piece before, so here’s her essay on the immigrant lunchbox trope.
Speaking of friends of the show… Sarah Mirk published a new comic about her increasingly complicated gender feelings. Take a peek and you might spot a familiar face :) :) :)

Anyway, here’s a piece about how the Pacific Crest Trail will be increasingly impossible to hike due to climate change. I have a couple friends who have successfully through-hiked the entire PCT, and a lot more who have had to come off the trail in recent years due to fire, smoke, and other conditions. I know everything is bad all the time but it just… all sucks so much that we (or whoever Did Climate Change) figured out a way to ruin the concept of “walking around outside for a while."
