Hey friends,
Hope you’re all hanging in there. It’s still very cloudy and cool here in Portland, but every day they say “tomorrow will be warm and sunny!” and every day they are wrong? Please just give me the sun, I need it to power my brain!!!!
Anyway, let me tell you the most exciting news first: next week’s episode is with IMOGEN BINNIE(!!!!) and it’s absolute chaos. This was me and Ozzy talking about the ep.
Meanwhile, this week’s episode is also cute and good!!! It features Jo Krishnakumar talking about:
- Indian trans communities
- casteism in queer spaces
- getting a doctorate to get the “Miss” out of your title
- Starting projects because you’re frustrated and also have ADHD
- Reimagining “the closet” as a balcony (or a nest or a cupboard or a cave)
- And more!
Speaking of cute and good, you’ve got like 10 days left on this round of merch, and folks are already showing off the new designs!!! As you know by now, everything’s at bit.ly/gendermerch.
OK, it’s time for Links & Stuff:
- I somehow missed this comic that PUP made about their song Matilda. It’s so cute!!! And the music video has a maybe baby trans in it!!!
- Also love this tiny comic from Gender Reveal alum (and patron!) Joey Alison Sayers.
- I just thought this was the wildest stat I had ever seen.
- Speaking of wild stats: what’s your gender in terms of 1-10?
- In anticipation of the Portland Girl God show tomorrow, I read a bunch of interviews with Grace & April. Really liked this one and especially this line: “if trans people had healthcare, safety, IRL friends—would they still need to post so much?”
- For folks with NYT access, I cannot stop thinking about this article about BBLs!!!! Did you know that they have the highest mortality rate of any cosmetic surgery?? And even though trans people for sure get BBLs (Taylor mentioned it last week), it’s really interesting to read what is clearly an article about cis women getting gender-affirming surgery.
- Leaving on a light note: here is the wikipedia page for animals with advanced degrees. Congrats to these dogs with MBAs.
That’s it for this week. Thank you so much for being here. Here’s your weekly Rhubarb.
