Two big podcast announcements!(!!!)

Hey friends,

Hope you’re all hanging in there.

I’m really bummed to announce that we’re going to be cutting this season short due to an intense carpal/cubital tunnel flareup that has made it really difficult for me to work for more than like 30 minutes a day. Most of you probably know how much I typically prioritize work — to a fault, most of my friends would say!! I’ve been trying to adjust that over the last several months, and having a repetitive motion injury exacerbated by typing has given me a chance to prove to myself that I can actually ~not work~ for a while.

I’m very sorry if the end of the season feels abrupt or unexpected. It was very unexpected to me, too! I had a couple more episodes planned for y’all, but I’ll be tacking them to the beginning of season 8 instead. The good news is that they will be better episodes now that we'll have more time to make them. But the bad news is that it will probably be a couple of months before we put out the new season.

Literally the only reason I can do this — just stop working for a couple of weeks to recover — is because of YOUR generosity and kindness. The fact that y’all value our work and trust us enough to pay me and Jules every month, regardless of whether we’re actively releasing new episodes, honestly means the world to me. As my collective employers, you’re the ones allowing me to take sick time, and I really really appreciate it. Thank you!

I’m going to put out a tiny podcast with this information soon, but I wanted you to know first, since you are technically my boss hehe. And speaking of things that I wanted to tell you first…

WE’RE DOING A LIVE SHOW IN NEW YORK CITY.

Jules and I booked this show like a month ago, before Delta really spiked, and depending on what part of the world you’re in, going forward with the show might sound like an incredibly hazardous idea. But I have been checking somewhat obsessively with my friends and contacts on the ground in NYC, and they assure me that New York is doing really well with regards to safe covid events right now, so, we’re doing it! (Vaccinated guests only, of course.)

I’m really really stoked on this lineup, and think that it’s going to be a really great time! You can read more about all of our guests on the event page, and can listen to our 2018 interview with Mattie here.

We’re only releasing 100 tickets, so I’m giving y’all a head start on snagging them. They’ll also be available at the door if we don’t sell out first. Get your ticket now at gendernyc.bpt.me.

Not on the East Coast? I’ve got a whole West Coast tour planned, but we’ll be waiting until we’re not in a huge plague spike to get those fully booked and announced. In the meantime, I’ll be at Seattle Trans Beach Day (beep boop) with Zee and some other friends of the show next Saturday! I'm really hyped to see some of you there.

(Not on the East or West Coast??? Tell your friends to listen to Gender Reveal so that we have enough fans to support a tour to your city, hehe.)

I’m gonna stop typing soon because of the tunnels and all that, but before I go! Have you watched Reservation Dogs yet? It’s on Hulu and you should watch it. I never recommend TV or even watch TV but I’m watching every episode twice so that should tell you something.

You cannot convince me that these are four straight people.

Also, unrelated, we’ve still got two weeks of August merch left! bit.ly/gendermerch as always.

OK, that’s it. Here’s your weekly Rhubarb, taken by my roommate.

Xoxo,
Yr resident gender detective

PS: I'm very open to carpal/cubital tunnel hot tips and also suggestions for activities and hobbies that don't involve my hands or arms, hehe.

Dear Tuck - I appreciate all you do so much! I'm glad you are taking time out to take care of your self. Gender Reveal has been so important in my gender journey. I look forward to your return when you are ready. Much Love!

Emily Moon

Thank you for prioritizing your health and wellness Tuck!!

Rey

I've been dealing with similar wrist pain. I have no advice beyond what's already been given here, but I hope the flare-up is short and the time off is restorative. The rest does help.

Meghan

Take a long rest where you do the stretches and braces. When you get back to work, evaluate your keyboard and wrist position situation. As we age these things become more important.

Aster Hasle

Take a well earned break, Tuck! Good luck with the tunnels 💛

Dave Hoffman

tuck, sending you my warmest wishes for rest and relief!! I'm glad you're taking care of yourself, and thanks for all that you do!

theo

Oh shiiiiit I didn’t know about the beach day until now, that’s awesome and I hope to see you there!!!

Christina K

And I’m SO glad you’re taking a break! Way to model actual self care and boundaries!! Rest is revolutionary.

CG McFadden

I deal with non-carpal-tunnel wrist problems most days. I’ve had my wrists worked on by my acupuncturist and my chiropractor, and last week we tried KT tape, all of which seemed to help in the long term. I also recommend Voltaren gel (NSAID like ibuprofen but topical), epsom salt baths or soaks (big amounts of salt), and lidocaine patches (all over the counter and near the first aid/pain section in most pharmacies).

CG McFadden

Ugh carpal tunnel is the worst, I'm sorry you're going through that! I have no advice that you probably haven't already heard (do the stretches, wear the wrist brace at night, etc.) but the consistent annoying small things did really help mine and it went away relatively quickly with the regular stretching and brace wearing. I hope yours passes quickly too!

Mitchell Li

I don't have experience with carpal problems. But having a break sounds wise, and hopefully fixes them. Take care!
