Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince UNEDITED REACTION FULL MOVIE

Comments

Mj, ur comments are the best. I feel I don’t even have the literary credentials to be able to respond to all that but I promise I read it lol. U need a Harry Potter lore book deal or something dude! Always love hearing from you!!

It’s fun dude. And I hope you guys enjoy watching as much as I like guessing.

Course. Yeah I know absolutely nothing about the last two.

It's so much fun watching you and Mr. Brush putting the puzzle pieces together (Reminds me of Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson) and so many more coming, too. It was worth waiting for the full movie reaction. Mj, above, said it all. Your go-to background source, I guess. Keep 'em coming, guys.

snape is a half-blood wizard on his mother's side. his father was a muggle, and his mother was a witch, and her maiden name was prince so that was what he decided to call himself. also, snape was potions master at hogwarts (though he originally wanted to be the defense against the dark arts teacher) until slughorn replaced him, and he finally became the defense teacher. i also like how it's a theme that whoever the defense teacher is for that year they play a major role in the book/movie so in the beginning when it's revealed that snape was this year's defense teacher it's like a signal of him being imperative to the story this year (also makes you wonder if he's going to turn out to be ~evil~ like so many of the others were (except lupin of course lmao).

Perfect footnote to my work week. Yay! I know what you are thinking, here come the essays but nope, great job. That's all. Ok I lied. Let's go! How much do you wish you could clean like Dumbledore and Slughorn did with the destroyed house at the beginning? Dude my house would stay spotless. Narcissa Malfoy is Draco's mother so you guys got that right. She has two sisters, Bellatrix Lestrange and Andromeda Tonks (mother of Nymphadora Tonks). They are Black's and cousins of Sirius. An unbreakable vow will kill the vower if not obeyed so what they had Snape promise was to protect and watch over Draco while he did what Voldemort wanted (which by the end of the movie you know was to kill Dumbledore and get the death eaters into hogwarts.) And that if Draco could not complete his task Snape was to do it. So from that you know that Snape will help, protect and take over for Draco at any time under penalty of death. I actually love how this movie really shows Dracos decent. You just see him get more and more unkempt and thinner. He just looks more and more sickly as time goes on. On the train you asked what Harry dropped and it was Peruvian Instant Darkness powder he had gotten from Fred and George. He used the blackness to get under his cloak and snuck up above Draco so he could hear but Draco saw the bag move and knew. As to why Draco. Well Voldemort wanted the prophecy bad, he sent Lucius and the death eaters to get in and Lucius dropped it, breaking it and got arrested. Voldemort is very unhappy with the Malfoy family and is kind of forcing this job on Draco to restore the family honor if you get me. Voldemort doesn't really care about anyone, including his supporters. This paragraph is not book factual, this is my own supposition on the Malfoy family. I think they are rich and powerful. They were all raised to believe power and purebloods were everything. So had Voldemort not come around they likely would have been disdainful but not evil. They aren't good by any stretch but they aren't inheritly evil either. They get darker as Voldemorts presence corrupts. We watched a very arrogant Draco change after Voldemorts return and while he is still cocky, he shows much more humanity through the course of this movie. Now back to facts, you stated Lucius treated Draco badly, I want to clarify that he didn't. Draco is the apple of his parents eye. Lucius gets disappointed and embarrassed that Draco isn't the best in the class (Hermione is) and isn't the best at quidditch (Harry is). He is expected to be the best at everything. The movies don't show it but Malfoy is top of every class, beaten only by Hermione. Books show Draco constantly, like almost daily, getting packages from home with anything he could want. He is spoiled rotten but not abused. The memories they watched, you can take memories from anyone but they have to give them willingly to you. In the books they watched a lot more memories than that. They showed Voldemorts life before he became Voldemort. Including his learning about his mother. His mother was abused and mistreated and could barely do magic due to her fear of her father and brother. The Gaunt family (her name was Merope Gaunt) were decended from Salazar Slytherin which they thought made them better than everyone while they lived in squalor. She gave Tom Riddle Sr. A love potion and kept it up everyday. He married her and got her pregnant. At that point she figured he would have really fallen in love. He hadn't. As soon as he no longer had the potion, he dropped her and went home to his family. She gave birth at a orphanage and died shortly after giving birth, only demanding he be named for his father. When Tom went searching for his parents, he assumed because his mother died that she was a muggle only to learn the truth. I think this is what lead to his obsession with death and power. The curse spell you couldn't remember the name of is the imperious curse and yes Katie Bell was under that while trying to deliver the necklace to Dumbledore. To clarify a different point, ORIGIONALLY the prophecy could have been about Neville or Harry but part of the prophecy said Voldemort would "mark him as his equal" by him trying to kill Harry, he fulfilled this part meaning that Harry is, from the age of 1 when Voldemort killed his parents and tried to kill hin, the chosen one meaning Neville no longer could be. You commented that Harry was studying while he was looking at the half blood prince's book. He wasn't. He was obsessed with it. There were all kinds of spells that Snape had created. For example one that you have already seen. When Harry went back in Snape's memories in the last movie you saw James bullying him. James did something to hang Snape upside down. Snape had created that spell or one very similar to it. Harry was just reading everything in that book and the sectumsempra spell he used on Draco said only for enemies with no notation of what it did. It was incredibly reckless to use but Harry just wasn't thinking the author was evil. He just thought the person was really smart. That spell scared him out of the obsession. The vanishing cabinet. It creates a passageway between two places but the one at Hogwarts was damaged so Draco was trying to fix it. The apple didn't have a bite taken out of it, it was just missing a piece. What he sent out went perfectly but coming back it came back wrong. The room of requirement becomes whatever you need it to be. Only someone who is wanting the exact same thing could get it at same time. One of the functions is a place to store stuff no one wants, like an attic and over time so much had been put in there it has also become a place where things can be hidden. So anything someone no longer needs gets chucked in there. That's where the cabinet was and that's where Harry and Ginny took the book. And FYI the Harry/Ginny buildup was much more gradual in the book. In the movie it is just bam they are in love? When did that happen? Slughorn kept taking stuff to sell on the black market. It's kinda what he does. He's a good guy but he is always down to make a profit. The reason Dumbledore said Harry and his blood were more valuable is because Harry is the chosen one. He has to kill Voldemort. Also Dumbledore didn't screw up. The book makes what happened much more clear. He spends the entire book visiting places that meant something to Voldemort looking to see if a horocrux was stashed there. He found the ring at the Gaunt home and there had been some memories from Voldemorts time in the orphanage when they took a trip to the coast. Voldemort as a child led three other students into the cave Dumbledore and Harry went into and he scared the other kids very badly. (Doesn't specify how) but that place where he had scared muggles was important so Dumbledore went there with Harry. Voldemort HAD hidden a horocrux there. RAB (you will find out in next movie what that stands for and no it is not Remus Lupin) figured out that Voldemort had horocruxes and where to find one. He got that horocrux before Dumbledore and vowed to destroy it. At this point we have no idea who has or had it, if it's been destroyed or anything. You are supposed to have questions about it. When I read the books I finished this one in 2 days and had to wait almost a month to discuss my RAB theories with someone. It sucked. And fyi I was right. 😁 Harry going off on his own I think is him trying to protect the people he cares about. The whole situation is so dangerous. We already know death eaters will kill muggles at the drop of a hat. Pay attention to the danger level. Something happens at the beginning of the next movie that they don't explain well. I won't give any spoilers I will simply say it is human nature to protect people we love. Fenir Greyback is a werewolf, a particularly nasty one at that. He is seen a couple times in this movie. At the beginning he is the one holding the man they kidnap, when the trio follows Draco he is the one that almost catches them at the window and finally he is there for the Christmas battle along with Bellatrix when they battle Harry, Ginny, Tonks and Lupin. He is actually the werewolf that bit Lupin and turned him. Fenir goes out of his way to stay as close to children during the full moon as he can get to try to infect/turn as many as he can. I love that you love Luna. She is just light and sunshine. She isn't really naive more that she doesn't make assumptions. Like at the beginning of the movie Harry apologizes for making her miss the carriages and she says it's ok it's almost like walking with a friend and Harry responds that they are friends. Even after all they have been through she doesn't just assume she is friends with the trio. She likes them and cares about them but doesn't force herself where she may not be wanted. Last point and I will shut up. You asked about apparating and if it was what the black smoke was earlier. Apparating is essentially teleporting. You can take a test and get a license to do it at 17 though it can't be very hard to do and many wizards choose not to. The twins kept doing it in the last movie when they kept appearing places. Dobby did it in the second movie when he would appear and disappear. The movies are trying to give a visual so they do the black smoke/white smoke but that's not really apparanting that's just a cool movie effect so you see where they are going.
