Our long awaited next character needs no introduction, one of Disney's biggest Villains and most iconic character's, everyone's favourite uncle, Scar.
For the model I've chosen the pose where he's sitting on the rock just before giving his 'be prepared' speech to the hyena's, you can just about see it in the middle image on the right. I think this one really showcases his sinister nature and he'll look right at home displayed on a desk or shelf, I've also got big diorama based plans for him when I eventually get round to making Shenzi, Benzi & Ed.
With Scar being a special character there'll also be an ornamental variant to go along with him, I'll be working on the model over the next week or so but I'll post some updates in a few days so you can see how he's progressing so far.
In the meantime though, out next I have a fun little add on for our character release, followed by a lovely family themed gift for fans of the Lion King looking for something special this Christmas!
While Jeremy Irons voices Scar for most of the movie, he blew out his voice recording "Be Prepared" (specifically the line "You won't get a sniff without me."), so the rest of the song is sung by Jim Cummings, who voices Ed.
In an original draft for the ending of The Lion King, Scar was to be shown burned alive after defeating Simba and throwing him off Pride Rock into the flames, laughing in his victory as he does. Although it was ultimately cut, Simba's Pride and The Lion Guard implies that fire was partially involved in Scar's demise.
The final version of Scar's demise (being destroyed by the hyenas) was inspired by the original ending of Beauty and the Beast in which Gaston would've been destroyed by wolves after surviving his fall from the Beast's tower, an ending which was cut due to being too dark for the movie but recycled for Scar's demise.
In the episode "Battle for the Pride Lands" of The Lion Guard, it is revealed that Scar got his scar from a cobra, who was a friend of an unnamed lion that Scar had befriended. The lion promised to cure his scar if Scar agreed to do whatever he said, instead Scar destroyed him and the cobra with the roar. When Scar hoped that Mufasa would praise him for destroying the scheming lion, Mufasa mocked him instead by nicknaming him "Scar". The poison from the cobra later made Scar's personality even darker than it already was.
According to Ford Riley, Scar's original name was "Askari" named after his ancestor and the founder of the original Lion Guard but was shortened down to "Scar" by Mufasa after he was bitten by the cobra.
Scar was one of the only Disney Villains to draw someone's blood, he does so during his final battle with Simba. This is considered graphic for a PG film, which may have gotten it an R rating.
In the 1997 Disney film Hercules, Scar makes a brief cameo appearance in the scene where Hercules is posing for the painting wearing the skin of what's supposed to be the Nemean Lion, but is actually Scar.
Scar is the first Disney villain to be biologically related to one of the main protagonists in the Disney canon.
Originally, Scar was going to send adult Nala away from Pride Rock because she ignored his romantic approaches. This idea was ultimately abandoned, as sexual harassment was considered improper in a family movie. This deleted scene can be seen in the Blu Ray's special features.
Scar is similar to Hades in that both are the brother of the hero's father (thus their uncle), both are trying to dispose of the main character, and both are trying to take over their home.
It's unknown whether Scar held Zira in high regard, while he did teach her about the Roar of the Elders, he didn't bother to recruit her into his Army in the Lion Guard.
When the live-action remake of The Lion King was announced, the response was more than divided, one reason was the redesign of Scar, but there's valid reasoning behind the direction the filmmakers took. The animated Scar has a black mane and almost caramel-coloured orange fur. Naturally, a real-life lion of this coloration would not exist. The black mane, however, would exist, just not on Scar. Darker manes are a sign of a healthy, active, and happier lion.
