BONUS! Krusty and Guy, Beady Eyed Freaks and Golf Enjoyers
Added 2024-04-11 08:00:01 +0000 UTCA trio of duos! Let's wrap up this episode with a look at a few of the background characters that I noticed. That's why you subscribe right? For me...noticing things?
Moments like this stand out in early seasons because it contradicts the later canon of the show - that Krusty's white skin is not make-up. Plus, it is completely unnecessary that this be Krusty at all - they appear to be going for a kind of sleazy, dirty pool hall atmosphere, full of ne'er do wells, but Krusty's character is not established enough to make him fit this yet. It's just distracting!
The other guy looks like a sort of proto-Jailbird, but we're not gonna see him for a little while.
Similarly, it's unusual to see Simpsons characters without the big white eyes, and these two stick out to me, even though they are only on screen briefly. The pair, presumably father and son, look like aliens, come to Earth to participate in the human custom of "mini golf".
Lastly, it's always fun to pick out weird little Klasky-Csupo designs from this time, characters in crowds that break the eventual rules of what's allowed in Simpson characters. Springfieldians in general aren't this skinny, and you'll definitely be seeing less and less of the Bart haircut in other characters the more we move forward.
