Late as hell and this is long but — religious iconography in light of Nazism question is tough. I’m Persian, and my mother’s family is Zoroastrian (the ancient Persian monotheistic religion that predates the Abrahamic monotheism— if you don’t know anything about it but dig religious stuff I encourage you to do some research, an interesting value set alongside strange mythology and dying modern practice) though I was raised Catholic. While it’s thankfully nothing as infamous as the swastika, there are a few Zoroastrian symbols that were similarly appropriated (taken wholesale and perhaps slightly edited) by the Nazis with their disturbed ideology slapped on top of it— it’s not just us, they did this with many things out of weird obsession / a need to ground their bullshit in something known / an empirical colonialist mindset / take your pick. So far I’ve lived my own life with the Bob cut your losses value set, but one day I’ll inherit pieces of my mom’s jewelry that I heavily associate with her (bc she has not taken this route— strongly feels as a Persian raised in West Germany / now the USA that that have those symbols were stolen and twisted and shouldn’t be lost).
