Part of the purpose of prison is to deter people from committing crimes. If it’s a chill place to be, maybe it’s not so bad to risk the consequences of crime. If it sucks, maybe that’s the only thing that makes some people think twice before they do something illegal.

2022-12-29 01:00:23 +0000 UTCDespite living in DC with no representation, the best thing about the voting system here is that on the first day of the early voting period, DC mails out ballots to all residents, and they can either be mailed back or dropped off at polling places or these drop boxes. It's been super nice.

2022-12-28 16:27:59 +0000 UTCI personally feel that the punishment/rehabilitation topic on prison and jail is a lot more complicated than most make it out to to be. Most people need and deserve rehabilitation and to be treated like every other human. But imo there ARE people who need to be punished. Child abuser? You don't deserve rights. Rapist? You don't deserve rights. And the reason most jails/prisons don't allow phone access is because it makes it a lot easier for people to smuggle drugs inside. As someone who has had most of my family members serve time for drug use/selling, I'd rather they not have access to the thing killing them.
