I used to work for Disney (in Tokyo). It is 100% true that you are a character performer (Mickey, Goofy, etc.), you cannot take your costume off under any circumstances when you are "onstage" (in the view of paying customers). You have a handler that will help you if you are ill or in distress, but you are DONE if you "take your head off" inside the park. And you are not allowed to "break the spell" and tell people that you play a character inside the park... costumed or otherwise. But... and this is WILD... if you are a "Face Character" (Aladdin, Jasmine, Cinderella, etc.), you are under scrutiny EVEN WHEN YOU'RE OFF-DUTY. If the guy playing Aladdin is out at the bars one night and he gets a little wild and it gets back to Disney... he can be fired. These are just a few of the many rules and regulations that are in your contract when you agree to work for the Mouse.

Rita Hayworth was Spanish and actually born Margarita Carmen Cansino, and when she was signed on to Columbia, the president of the studio thought she was too “exotic” looking and not only anglicized her name, but forced her to undergo electrolysis on her hairline (zapping with a sharp needle with each hair follicle being “killed” one at a time) so she could fit the new Anglo-American type they assigned her. Under contract, you could not refuse to do a film you were assigned, and you couldn’t make a film with another studio unless the respective president of either studio temporarily traded you for another actor like a Pokémon card. If you refused to make a picture, you were suspended, and the amount of time it took to complete that film was added to your contact (from which you legally could not back out of). Hollywood was (and still is) run by powerful bigoted white men, and throughout the 20th century, was even closely linked with the mafia. These were people you didn’t want to mess with. I lived very close to Six Flags over Texas and I am here to validate Ms. Martha’s parenting. My mom would drop us off with a couple of bucks and we’d spend the whole day at six flags several times a week during the summer starting in middle school. Getting dropped off with your friends at Six Flags in middle school made me feel like such a grownup. If only I’d known about sucking dick! 😂 I grew up going to Astroworld in Houston (not the demon death festival, but the old Six Flags park that’s no longer there). I specifically remember hearing employees complain to each other about how strict the dress/hair code was. I’d say about 90% of the people working there were black teenagers or very young adults. It's called the midwest because during Manifest Destiny times, everything west of Appalachia was called "the west." For a long time the US didn't expand out to the west coast, so the "western united states" referred to states like Indiana, Michigan, and Kansas. Once the US expanded all the way to the Pacific, these states started to be called the midwest to distinguish them from the parts of the western US that were far further west. Also, interestingly, the tourism boards of Michigan, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and the Dakotas have been trying to rebrand their region as "the North" in order to differentiate the lakes, forests, wildlife, and snow of the upper midwest from the primarily farmland of the lower midwest.
