EARLY ACCESS: Never Meet Your... Fans? (Emiru, Eilish & More)

Hey, where's the video link? Well, as I mentioned, I'm currently on vacation, and not available to do all the things that allow early access to work normally (I'll leave a more detailed explanation below if you REALLY care). SO, I've uploaded the video directly to Patreon. I know this isn't the most ideal way for you to watch these videos, I know a lot of you prefer a YouTube link, and I apologize for that. This will of course be published tomorrow at its regular time of 10am on YouTube at THIS link, if you want to just wait to watch it that way. Everything will be back to normal in a couple weeks, and of course, this will NOT affect bonus videos while I'm away, you'll still get them as YouTube links.

Anyway, for those of you who are here to watch the video... enjoy!

They say "never meet your heroes", but did we maybe ignore that advice in a way and create too many parasocial relationships? Buckley looks at the recent incident at TwitchCon, where a streamer named "Emiru" was grabbed by a fan and security was effectively ineffective. This was just one of THREE incidents in a 30 day period, as a fan also grabbed Billie Eilish at a concert, and a streamer in South Korea was murdered by one of her "whales" who had "donated" $70,000 to her, and was upset he wasn't getting anything in return.

The long winded explanation:

Every single week, I upload my weekend video on Thursday evening, and create one of these Patreon posts, scheduled for Friday. I upload the video as "Unlisted", which means anyone who has the link is able to watch it. You watch the video on Friday, you can leave comments, all the fun stuff. Then, on Saturday morning, I sit at my desk with one hand on a mouse staring at a clock, and when it hits exactly 10am, I click "Publish", making it public for everyone. I do this every single Saturday. Ideally, YouTube would let you schedule a video BUT leave it as "unlisted" until such time as it goes public, but they do NOT allow this (since the only use-case for it is things like Patreon, and they'd prefer I use YouTube Memberships to do what I'm doing). So again, I apologize, I know people like a routine, and it'll be back to normal by the 14th for sure.

Comments

I dont know about the Beatles gigs but 1. during many gigs I had eye contact with musicians who loved my energy (I'm usually the one dude being active in the audience by headbanging a lot), too many to have any doubts about it (easily 30+ gigs out of ~170 I've been on during my life) 2. I played drums during several gigs, only during one I didnt really see much of the audience since I had a wig of long black hair and one of the scene lamps was blasting my left eye, so I didn't even see my fucking hihat. So I kinda doubt that people losing their shit over eye contact with the beatles were mistaken

This was really great. It's a sick sad world out there. Hope your vacation is wonderful!

Fiz Gig

For the last time, I'm NOT interested in grabbing your ass, so please stop asking me

Beatrice Ostrowsky

Yt link or not it doesn’t matter to me…….Hope your vacation goes well Buckley :)

SwaggSwiggity

Enjoy your vacation, sir.

Elijah Tittman

It’s surprisingly more and more common. Lots of celebrities no longer doing Meet and Greets due to fan behaviour. People just suck and, as a large, are incapable of behaving like decent citizens anymore. Chappell Roan was right

Ash Archer

Yeah, this is worrying. Chappell Roan was right to call out her fans for their behavior.

Ben Jackson

Competitive pokemon player/streamer Wolfe Glick (WolfeyVGC) just released a video a few days ago saying he was going to stop doing in person events for a while in part because he was getting groped by fans on a semi-regular basis. People suck.

Heed The Call

I'm glad that I've never found streams entertaining. Twitch sounds like a tire fire that someone has tried to put out by throwing on truckloads of manure.

Kris Simpson

4:16 She was cosplaying as Yumeko Jabami, the main character of Kakegurui, an anime series about a school full of gamblers that got a Netflix live action show adaptation (called Bet for some reason), notable for having Seth Rollins appear as himself.

G4ZDTechTV

Yeah, and last year a bunch of girls were streaming and some other dude showed up in his underwear to rub his junk on them. On camera

Adam Buckley

TwitchCon truly is a shit show every year. I mean this is the same convention a streamer broke her back due to a foam pit not being deep enough.

Zach Reedy

Parasocial nutters, beautiful double entendre, intentional or not

Kip Jebo

how am i supposed to comment "first" if i cant early access the video!?!
