EARLY ACCESS: Nintendo Hates Fans and Money

VIDEO LINK: https://youtu.be/-ITvTR6zrF8

Happy Friday! So far every weekend video in January has been about music, and when you include the Worst Songs of 2020 near the end of December, I've talked a LOT about music over the last 4 weeks. So I thought it was time to Switch it up. Get it? SWITCH it up? Nintendo? Ahh whatever here's the description for this weekend's video!

Nintendo has a reputation among the gaming community for being unfriendly to their fans, being overly protective of their content, and being extremely concerned about someone else making money off their work. But do their business practices set them up for people to make money off them? Buckley looks at several instances where Nintendo just decided to let fans earn cash from Nintendo products when Nintendo could have been making those coins!

I wish that was the process on this one, but I actually wrote this script pretty free-form, just "let's see where this takes me" and when I got to the end I thought up the joke. Sometimes I come up with the ending first and work backwards, but this was not the case here.

You made this whole video just so you could say that ending line/joke.

I have seen a nintendo have a game on sale. It was this year on the 3DS. And I had to jump through as many hoops to actually be able to by it as well.

Loved the ending joke on this one

I understand Nintendo wanting to protect their IPs, so I don't completely begrudge them for going after fangames. But it's pretty sad when you think about it. They make so much money and are beyond successful. But they could be even more successful if they changed a few things. The limited exclusives thing you mentioned doesn't help customers, and it doesn't even help them because like you said, once they stop producing them those games are going to become scarce. And there will be a market for them, people willing to spend upwards of a $100 for a game they've probably already played. And the stupidity of not lowering their prices of older games. Mario Kart 8, like you said was a Wii U game, and it came out on the Switch in it's first year, it was one of the first games after the launch that helped get more consoles sold. Most people have already bought it, if they slashed the price in half they'd most likely see a bump in sales for it.
