Singularity Deck Fantasy Suits
Added 2023-04-02 15:00:04 +0000 UTCHi all,
First, a quick update on the piecepack: The good news is the package from the Game Crafter supposedly containing the missing components showed up quickly. The bad news is that they didn't actually send me the missing components and instead sent me a second copy of the components I already had. The follow up good news is that they are just resending me the entire order, so hopefully that should resolve everything. Tune in next week for what should hopefully be the exciting finale!
Okay, on to the main event. Thanks to everyone for filling out the recent project poll: https://www.patreon.com/posts/project-poll-77893119.
Most of the interest was on prioritizing the the Singularity Deck Fantasy suits for the near future.
Given this will be a months long project to finish up, I'll also be working on some of the other quicker to execute ideas when I need to shift creative gears for a bit.
For example, I'll have some things to share related to the 3D printed project GIPF pieces soon.
That said, I'm excited to get to work on the fantasy suit deck as it's been an idea we've all been kicking around since before the third edition was finalized. Particularly given that this deck will be a special edition for patrons, I want there to be plenty of back and forth in terms of shaping the design.
So, let's get started!
First of all, this deck is intended to sit alongside all of the other decks, so:
- The back will be shared with the other third editions suits.
- The general aesthetic will be similar to the cosmos and earth decks.
- The art for items for the court cards will be swappable art-wise, just like the cosmos and earth art.
- It will include all the same ranks as the other suits, including extended ranks.
- It will be available in both asymmetric and symmetric layouts.
I have a smattering of art in progress and a pretty solid idea of what the suits should be.
Speaking of the suits, here is what I'm thinking (based on a bunch of Patron suggestions for new suit ideas over the previous many months).
Water, Fire, Earth, Air, Metal, and Wood.
The idea is that this combines two sets of ancient understandings of the forces of nature:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wuxing_(Chinese_philosophy)
The deck doesn't include Aristotle's idea of Aether, but I think the spirals suit is a nice stand in for this one and it reinforces the suit as a kind of wild suit that connects all of the other decks.
Before I start barreling too far ahead, I wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts, concerns, or other ideas for the fantasy suits.
Here is the current state of the suit icons for each of these (I deliberately made the cards all grey since the exact colors are still up in the air).

I have a bunch of other questions to get ideas and feedback on for the deck, but I'll keep things focused just on the suits for now.
