Intended Dialogue:
Adagio (siren monster): Mm. Curious little thing. You don't cower before your end?
Tech (the stallion): Are you kidding me?! YOU'RE GORGEOUS!!!
Another commission WIP since I've been quite busy with them, and like I mentioned in the previous one they'd work relatively well as the occasional freebie for anyone who visits my Patreon + a lil sneak peek into my process!
This one is a Character Art commission I'm doing for the amazing Sanyo2100; he wanted his oc Tech interacting with a large monster-sized Adagio Dazzle and gave me some excellent references for an anthrofied version of her siren form. He gave me artistic liberties with said design and the composition, and I basically said "aight bet".
Character Art commissions don't usually entail a comic-like layout, but I decided to really lean into the interaction as well as aim to sell the fact that Adagio is fuckin massive. So my head immediately went with "shipwreck, kraken style".
When I can help it I like to give some sort of depth and/or energy to my work; a simply standing, flat drawing of a character definitely has its place and is sometimes even the better option depending on context. But I do admit I really like the challenge adding depth brings to a piece. And that's where thumbnails really come into play! As you can see I had a very clear idea I wanted to impose, but actually executing it in a way I was satisfied with was tricky.
Perspective remains one of my weakest skills in art, but I think I managed to pull it off fairly well so far for this one! And as seen, the comic-esque layout wasn't originally in the plans, but was added into the final composition thumbnail as a sort of side idea I ended up REALLY liking and decided to keep. It just really helped frame the overall energy of the image as well as bring another aspect I very much enjoy working on in art: character expression.
But yeh! I'm excited to get this one done, I hope ya'll enjoy the art! :)
