Hey hey!
As promised, here you go. The full-fledged, complete CG for Update 9 for your previewing pleasure. ;)
I say full, but I think that's still an understatement. There's value in this as, while I do very much intend to make an in-game gallery to review CGs at some point, we're not quite there yet, so in-game we won't have a chance to gaze at the complete version of the CG quite like this.
At the same time though, while I tried to bring the best of everything into this preview, it doesn't do justice to EVERYTHING that this CG is meant to be! I'll talk a little bit about it while not spoiling the scene as a whole since now we have it complete.
You might have noticed that we made this CG quite wide. That's very much intentional! In the baths with both commanding officers, as the dialogue between them happens, the plan for this CG is to be more than just a static CG. Both the Captain and Commander have a few expressions and variations of them that aren't shown here, as well as a moving arm that, all so that we can see the CG 'moving' and evolving as the dialogue happens. Since the CG is wider than the screen, we'll be moving our 'head' between each of them as we talk and listen to what they have to say in their conversations.
The scene itself is not incredibly long, but it has become substantial. There'll also be an infusion possible during it that will change the outcome of the final part (it's not what you're thinking though, sorry!).
As said a few times before, big plans for this scene! I hope it's gonna turn out awesome with this amazing visual aid done by Blain!
Speaking a bit from the dev side of things, I really wanted this CG for the sake of Commander Brigham, primarily. While yes, he's in the baths and he's entirely naked, as you can see, his dialogue comes from a place of power. He has authority. I felt like his sprite, as great as it is, wouldn't deliver that in visuals as much as I wanted to do so in the text. In the CG, however, I very much feel like Blain was capable of capturing all of his greatness and authority in the position he's in. :)
This will be the first time in the story that Resnick, and by definition US, will have a chance to speak with him in close quarters and with more time, so I feel like this is an important scene for Commander Brigham.
Not only that, but while I'm happy people enjoyed the contents of Update 8, I always feel like the lore and idle conversations aren't quite enough to make even the idle moments memorable, so this CG and the gimmicks around it will hopefully help making even these calmer moments of conversation a lot more interesting to interact with and see. ;)
Rant and previews abou the CG over! For now, enjoy looking at the greatness our dear Blain has constructed! I hope you'll all look forward to seeing it in its full glory in the game soon as well. :D
As always, thank you!
