10 Levels Of Sweep Picking

Sweep picking! My most beloved guitar technique, and despite often being heavily meme'd-on it's an undeniably cool skill to have in your arsenal.

We've covered a bunch of different sweeping-based lessons so far here at the Guitar School, including the super popular 1 Minute Workout, but I've been super eager to make a comprehensive, focussed exercise on it.

So expanding on the "levels" format I've been using in the 1 Minute Workouts, I've created this study that features 10 levels of difficulty; starting with some very chill 8th note patterns and working all the way up to some absolute insanity at the end, for those who the extra challenge!

Good luck and don't forget to share your progress with everyone in the Discord server!

Hey, right in around 17:50 you mention something like, "expected target" based on current ability. I love that, and when I think about where I hit barriers on the 10 levels of alt picking, its a great way to not feel discouraged about hitting block, and to shift and pay really close attention to some of the added challenge you add to each section, and consider the other skills/techniques which I might be working on to level up on this exercise. All of which is to say, I deeply appreciate these types of lessons you are doing - aside from being an absolute blast to play, they have really helped me hone in on my specific challenges. . .the side-quests I need to complete before leveling up, and the bonus of *really* wanting to reach that cool level that's juuuuuust about in my reach. Keep doing what you are doing man!

My big issue has always been noise… So I always tell my self when practicing sweeps to have a free floating butterfly of a right hand. I focus on palm muting and variations of it ringing out. I also try to mute and dampen the strings with my fretting hand I tell my fret hand to be nimble like a cat. Light on attack and light on release… I also use an accelerating metronome to slowly clean things up.
