D-Girl PROCESS circa 2022

Back when I made mostly alla prima portrait sketches, I usually painted over some kind of sketchy grey under painting. Things haven’t changed much as my current underpainting techniques still vary between color ébauche and grisaille, sometimes I free hand the drawing and sometimes I transfer the drawing. This is an older work from 2022. A good friend purchased this work as I prepared for the Ride the Tiger exhibition back in 2023. It’s a portrait of my younger sister Diana. It’s 11x14 inches I believe.

I go back to this painting often while I work on my own. I’m still pretty “new” to glazing and scumbling. Sometimes it works and other times it doesn’t. Would you say you do some sort of glazing or scumbling on all of your paintings, or just as you think it’s needed?

I remember that blog, oh my God, you are so kind. Thank you for being along with Will and I on this long journey of art making.

So funny I dont remember seeing process shots of this painting! Not in IG, not in any of your blogs (do you remember point of view?) nor in the layer video you did with Will... but perhas it was there because the dates matches. But I did remember this painting! It was after a couple of amazing painting (your baby, and another one of two female bodies) ...2021. thanks for sharing these pics, its offer an amazing insight and are beautiful per se. Ps. A classic point of view was the name of your blog!
