Extra video - Reolink Altus PT Ultra

Hey all!!!

Well I couldn't wait to share this one (not least as several of you have been asking about security camera options whilst I was secretly helping test this!!) - so I thought I'd try and drop an extra video in in-between the usual schedule!

It's now released - it's an awesome device - I love how battery and wired cameras are starting to converge!

I can't say how much better this is than my old cameras!

Reolink site: https://reolink.com/product/altas-pt-ultra/?aff=507

Also I'm very fond of two other cameras:
Their bonkers 180 degree double 4K camera:
 https://reolink.com/gb/product/reolink-duo-3-poe/?aff=507

And their robot tracking double lens camera:
https://reolink.com/gb/product/reolink-trackmix-poe/?aff=507

These will feature in the workshop build as I'm going to use them for all sorts of cool stuff!

Yes, that does sound like iOS then - odd the app works with iPad too, mysterious!! I'd wager it'll equally mysteriously fix itself if you try again in a few weeks... tech, eh?? 🤣

Hi Katie, thanks for the quick reply. I am thinking it must be IOS related. Just added the cam to my iPad and it works fine in the same WIFI Network.

Christian Backmund

Hey Christian - no definitely not, mine just works seamlessly (ie I can connect to it regardless). I just set it up on Reolink app and then it appears as an entity that I can adjust, view and so on. I'm using Android though, so wonder if there's a bug or something on Apple gear? It does seem weird that wifi doesn't work and cellular does, in my experience it's normally the reverse that's the case! Have you raised with Reolink support / helpdesk yet? I'd suggest doing that and if you're struggling, drop me a PM and I can nudge them in my own unique style.... ;)

Hi Katie, just received my 1st and new Reolink Camera, the above mentioned Altus PT Ultra. What is your experience on the setup of the camera especially with the IOS App. Mine was able to connect to my wifi without problems however the iPhone App cannot connect to the camera as long as the iPhone is in the Wireless network. The App does connect without problem once I turn WIFI off and use the cell network. Have you heard about that problem or maybe experienced it and have a workaround. Reolink support site did not help yet. Greetings Christian

LOVE IT!!! I can make a 'Guard Dragon'!! Great thinking!

Thank you. The automation will come full circle then. Besides panning the camera an led light strip turns on to a specific color when that sensor is tripped. I got that idea from your dragon video.

Paris Woodhams

This is a brilliant point - I can't believe I didn't think of this more precisely, wonderful point and guess what I'll be testing tonight!! This will be great in so many ways!! For the swallow's nest I showed in my BBQ area, I could have 'BBQ view' and 'Birdie view' even temporarily! Love your thinking!

One of the cool things about bringing reolink cameras into home assistant is you can set preset preset points through reolink ptz cameras. Then create an automation to change to one of those views when a sensor is triggered. For example, I have a contact sensor on my mailbox. When it is triggered the camera will pan to the mailbox and zoom in. With one ptz camera and a few sensors can replace multiple cameras.

Paris Woodhams

Heheh, well it's easy when you can program the applause!! ;)

Thank you for the bonus video, Katie! Why do I get the impression you are no stranger to being greeted with thunderous applause every time you enter a room? And who knew infographics could be so....stimulating? Looking forward to some hedgehog footage in the next installment!

john gallagher

That would be great, and you've got to show off the little hedgehogs 😁

Bob Smithy

Nicely done.

John Dammeyer

Exactly how I've set things up, a mix of solutions gives a really robust setup! These are super handy for wildlife - I've got little hedgehogs in the garden, so being able to capture 4k colour night vision is awesome!! Yes, I'm planning to do a walkthrough in the future on setup (I'm about to upgrade a lot for my new workshop, so I might as well wait for them!!)

POE is absolutely the way to go for in and on the home. I love the idea of wireless ones for capturing bird's nests or other wildlife near the house. I've been wanting to build a bird house with a built in camera as some of those videos are really cool. I think I asked elsewhere but would be great to see the network equipment you use to run everything. I use the TP Link Omada myself, POE Cameras and WAP.

Bob Smithy

You're right
