Plant Labels!

Been cutting more of these labels from the smart gardening video a few weeks ago, they're super handy and the most robust solution I've seen (it's actually quite a tricky domain for materials - wood rots, pens fade in UV, labels peel, other things crack in the ice) - these are pretty much bulletproof.....!

I have a 0.2mm sitting in the drawer waiting for me to have a project for it. Maybe I'll swap it in today and give it a run, thanks for the reminder.

Hey John, yes you're totally right!! This was a test piece - I actually cut a single planter on its own, then a second, then a batch. I could easily get 25% more if I do exactly as you say!! I'm planning to do a huge bunch for around the garden, so I'll be super carefully arranging them as a single vector file to maximise my output!

Hi Katie! Great photos as always! One thing I noticed. I don't think you set up your laser-cutting file as efficiently as possible. If you are cutting a series of identical square cornered shapes, it's better to set the cut file up as one large perimeter outline shape with single cut lines to make each piece rather than cutting the full individual outline of each shape with spaces in between. Saves a ton of time with less wasted material. Lifemarking!

Awesome! I do something similar to your system. Custom Rickroll service! 🤣 It’s cool to hear the QR codes work on etched clear acrylic. I’m frequently surprised at the current capabilities of QR recognition. As to new lasers, I can’t wait to see more when you show off your newest!

That’s good to know the PLA and being outside….although the UV dial here (Aus) goes up to 11. Maybe I should run some tests 🤔

Hey! No issues at all with the transparency, it works great! The code just goes to a generic link on my home CMS, so I can then bounce that wherever I want it to go - which means I can change the link in future without changing the QR code! Regarding lasers, well I'll be covering one that's been blowing me away next week!!!

Time for a 0.2mm nozzle then! It'll do a great job!! PLA is also fine outside BTW, had ones out there for years with zero issues!

Great idea, but I think I'm going to have to do them in 2-color 3d prints in PETG rather than cut, since i'm $4k short of the $4K laser cutter price. :-)

I'm a big fan of QR codes. Also a fan of transparency and translucency! Does your phone have any trouble reading the codes without darkening them somehow? What do you put in the code? I've got serious cutter envy. I'd love to have a "real" laser cutter like that P2! There's a lot of back-burner projects in my basement that want for a good laser cutter.

Woohoooo. Laser is next on my list.

"Subtle but visible if you know where to look" is my favorite theme here!

It's awesome, they're subtle enough, but visible if you know where to look!

This is the XTool P2 that I bought a year ago or so - absolutely love it. Although there's a new friend in town that might even be cooler - video coming next Friday if I can finish it!

What laser are you using?

Patrick

I'm loving the see-through design with a QR code!

I love these labels! Having something like this might inspire me to keep my flower bed a bit more tidy🤣And thanks for the wonderful pictures 🥰

ALH

Clear acrylic! Works beautifully and I'm addicted to adding the QR tags to them too! Means I can store infinite information about plants and access it at a click!

Fabulous solution - is it polycarb? Love the translucency

Great light in the first outdoor picture
