You can guess which nerd has named the company 😂 Can’t tell anyone for sure, but there was only one guy who spent his whole pandemic years focused on videogames. 😂

2024-07-28 22:43:42 +0000 UTCOne of my favourite bits on this album is the gang vocals in One of the Radio. They played a show in Australia when they were recording the album and got the crowd to sing the "we don't care" bits. Do Ya was released as a charity single for Children in Need along with a cover of Stay With Me by Rod Stewart. In terms of writing for commercial success, they definitely used to do that, but this was probably the first album where they were writing more of what they wanted to write rather than for radio play. The made their own label for this album so had far more creative control over it than previous albums. The next album, Above the Noise, I think they tried to get back some of that commercial success, but then the album turned into something they didn't really want. After the hiatus, and the lost songs, the last two albums, Young Dumb Thrills and Power to Play were just written for themselves and the fans, with more the thought of "if it gets picked up by the radio and the general public, great, but if not, we know the fans will like it, because most of the time, the fans like the music we like" Also elephant, GMT and I'll see you in London!

They're not very happy with it production wise but it does have some bangers (Party Girl being one of them i won't stand for any Party Girl slander 🤣) then they did McBusted and then had a hiatus so next one is The Lost Songs which technically isnt a studio album it's just a collection of song but you definitely don't wanna skip it. I'd also urge you to check out The Greatest Bits album there's some B-sides on there plus some fun covers. Anyway great reaction and I'm glad you loved this album as much as we all do 🤘

I would also love to see your thoughts on some of the making of/story of the songs they have for these albums, as you seem really interested in the writing process and what influences are behind them. The Lost Songs was an album released after their 5th studio album, so another one to go before that. Up for joining a livestream for either - currently on BST (British Summer Time).

She falls Asleep is the story of a girl who takes her own life and Down goes Another One is the perspective of her boyfriend a year later. They are both separately great songs but taken together they are just perfection.

Down Goes Another One is the boys perspective in the She Falls Asleep story, they wanted to write a song that carried the story on :) this album was their first album not with the same label as the first 3.. they decided to leave to have more creative control, and created their own label , Super Records, which this album was released on. before their next album, Above the Noise released in 2010, they signed a 50/50 deal with the same label they had been with before..

2024-07-28 08:51:56 +0000 UTCThere’s a reason why Radio:ACTIVE is a fan favourite (it’s actually my favourite they’ve ever released) You correctly clocked on with the label thing! This album led to them fighting a lot with their label (Island Records) because this was the sound they wanted to play with and their label wanted them to remain more pop. Instead of coming to a compromise they went “fuck it” and released the album independently by creating their own record label. So it’s unapologetically them, and the shift is very obvious. That’s why the last song is called “The Last Song”. They knew they were taking a massive risk with this album because it wasn’t like their other stuff other than maybe a few guitar riffs etc, they thought it would be their last album because they didn’t think it would be received as well as it was. This was the “real” shift of when people went “wait they’re not a teeny bopper band?” as that’s what they were marketed as for years by this point. A few points: 1. Yes they do sing “fuck” on everybody knows when they do it live most of the time. 2. Down goes another one is the part 2 of She Falls Asleep (set a year later), if you listen to them back to back the whole story they told with those two songs comes to light and it’s…heavy 3. The other co-writers are big names too. Lauren Christy/Gary Edwards/Scott Spick for example formed “The Matrix” songwriter group who wrote Sk8er Boy (and a lot of other big songs) and Gary Clark used to be part of the Scottish band Danny Wilson from the 80s but now focuses solely on production and songwriting. 4. Lost Songs are a collection of unreleased tracks (a couple are finished but never made it to an album but most are demos that never got officially recorded) from their whole career from 2004-2012/2013. They didn’t all come from this era- in fact most were supposed to be their “sixth” official album but they went on hiatus for years so it just sat in an abyss somewhere.
