Thank you for listening to the album with English subs! I really like those positive lyrics of their old songs. I appreciate your explanations from a professional point of view. I always learn something new watching your reactions. Unfortunately the next video, the live performance of the Beam of Light tour is short and has only 7 songs because it was a bonus DVD included in their 3rd album "Kanjou Effect". Similarly, there is no full concert video for the 3rd album (a bonus DVD with only 5 songs). By the way, I found an old interview for the Beam of Light Album at https://okmusic.jp/news/178633 and thought it's interesting. You can google-translate to read the full article but to summarize a little, Taka says this album posed many challenges, as many of the songs had fast-paced pop melodies, which were difficult to sing. To solve this, he tried different things, such as adding English lyrics to give a stronger Western taste and changing his voice textures for each song. In addition, Taka says he used to write songs filled with anger, but when he saw many fans coming to their concert finding time out of the busy end-of-year season during the last album tour, he realized that singing was not just about venting anger. In this album he wanted to write about what he realized and hoped that his fans would feel the same way from his lyrics even if just a little bit. Anyway, thank you for giving me an opportunity to go back to their old albums and do a deep dive. Can't wait for the next live performance reaction :D

And I was so happy that there were English translations of the songs because I have the album but did not realize how positive the lyrics were because my Japanese is not that good. Green did such a great job. Taka did almost all of the music and lyrics for this album and you can really understand his feelings. He is really an awesome song writer and doesn't get enough credit for it because the western world is not aware of the genius of One OK Rock. I really like how you are following One OK Rock from their beginning and showing their progress to where they are now. I was surprised that when you talked about Crazy Botch, you had picked up what I said about the song. Wow! Looking forward to your reaction to the next album.

2024-02-24 23:48:43 +0000 UTCIf I remember correctly they were actually working on songs for Kanjo Effect (their 3rd album) but their label wanted them to release an album faster, so they wrote the songs for beam of light kind of in a rush and it was somewhat forced. Their 3rd album was also released in 2008 so they were really busy. Kanjo Effect is the last album with Alex. Personally Beam of Light is my least favorite album of theirs but it's still so good!
