I don’t think it’s as simple as just the Erin/Andy stuff, even if that does play a role. Andy was given a very Michael Scott line, in fact phrasing someone like they’re dead when they’re not was literally something Michael did when he hit Meredith with his car. It feels like they really need to fill the void that he left with the side characters instead of writing more to their original qualities at times. I think superfans still like the later seasons a lot but it really does feel like writing quality took a dip. Even the point about other characters being more prominent with Michael gone, that’s fine, but it feels like they just upped the wackiness of everyone which feels jarring at times. Oscar’s line and attitude about the treasure is a good example. Kind of felt like a different character. And then there’s stuff in the next season that’s reaaallly over the top. Robert California is still great though. Best new character of the last two seasons.
