What do you all think of Viserys' reign?

To add to what the comment said above about why Targs don’t marry outside, there’s also the consideration that they’re going to have to keep giving away dragon eggs to other families when a child of Targaryen blood is born to them. Look at the Velaryons who traditionally had no dragons. Rhaenys marries Corlys and in one generation they have their own brood of dragons. It works with the Velaryons cause they are bound to the Targs through history, but imagine other major houses getting dragons. We saw how eager Jason Lannister was to build a dragon pit at Casterly Rock for Rhaenyra. Houses like Lannisters and Starks who have been kings for millennia could start wondering why they need to follow the Targaryens if they have a bunch of dragons of their own.

Oh, I kinda like that dragon theory! Though, "He's had a growth spurt.", would be just as reasonable an explanation xD

His acting alongside Matt Smith’s really kept the series afloat for me. It’s been mostly a high school drama or cliche soap otherwise. But he was the glaring sign to everyone on the show that sitting on the throne won’t solve shit for you.

The reason the Targs keep marrying each other even without political advantages is the dragons. If they thin the blood to much they won't be able to hatch or ride dragons anymore. It's like keeping the nuclear codes for nukes but in the bloodline. Unfortunately this has draw backs. Incest doesn't effect them like it would us plebs with chromosome damage but it does effect them in odd ways. Madness and psychological problems crop up in like 50 percent of them. In the lore it ranged from Narcissism, psychopathic or sociopathic tendency, depression, religious delusion, or just full "madness" with others being smart, clever strong or exceptional. In the books they even say when a Targaryan is born the gods flip a coin. As for Aemon being so tall, look at his dragon. Being bonded to a dragon is more than just riding they kind of influence each other. Look at Daemons dragon, weird, kinda shady and a bit malformed but strong and fast. Just like Daemons insides and mind. Aemons bonded to a giant powerhouse so they kinda feed off each other making him fierce and powerful.

Also Rhaenyra was the one who made the proposal of both her sons to Rhaneeys. Gotta listen better.

Mickey why don’t you understand that Luke and Jace are still targaryens

Viserys belongs in a wholesome fantasy like LOTR or something.

So symbolic how the green, Alicent and her cohort are positioned on the rotten side of Viserys' face. While the black, Rhaenyra's side, stand on the good side of Viserys ' face. It’s crazy how Alicent hate Rhaenyra so much for having sex and children out of wedlock. She resents the legitimacy of Rhaenyra's children when the "late" King consort Leanor didn't challenge their paternity and recognized them as his own, he gave them his name. The same goes for the grandfathers. Vicerys as King could have brought the issue and even stripped them of their title and inheritance but he didn't. He knows perfectly well who was their biological father but he didn't care. Same for Corlys Velaryon, we saw in the 7th episode that he wanted Lucerys to become the Lord of Driftmark so he could carry his name and his legacy. Vicerys, Corlys didn't challenge their paternity, they accepted them as their grandchildren. And since Leanor, Corlys and King Vicerys acknowledged them as Velaryon, they are legitimate by law. (If you remember, the same case happened in Game of Throne, Ramsay was a bastard until he was recognized by his father and he became Ramsay Bolton by law. That's why he could marry Sansa Stark.) So, Alicent or Vaemond Velaryon have nothing to say on the matter. It's laughable how Alicent presented herself as the epitome of integrity while she’s routinely picking up after her rapist son and distributing plan-B teas, left, right and center. You can guess, that it isn’t Alicent’s first time, when she said to her son "must you keep doing this?". She has a routine already in motion around the Red Keep. She has her speech memorized, she had the money prepared and the tea on hand. I'm sure Otto has a secondary cleanup protocol at the ready. I'm sure that poor girl is already dead. Alicent is the poster child of hypocrisy. She always said that the Targaryen customs were “queer” (her word) and yet she made sure her son and daughter marry each other. The pot calling the kettle black. The only saving grace on the green side is Helaena Targaryen. Unfortunately, she’s in such a terrible marriage and yet she has such a beautiful soul. I believe in the theory that Helaena is autistic. Her reaction when the Daemon killed Vaemond, the noise of the beheading made her so uncomfortable, she covered her ears and shook her head vehemently.

The Evil Queen

Rest in Peace Vizzy T. He tried so hard to mend his family. Hell, aside from their kids being little shits, right there at the end, for just a moment, Alicent and Rhaenyra were looking like they could move forward amicably. And with his dying words he bumbled it one last time in a confused plea he thought was going to Rhaenyra. Daemon was right in a way, he was always his own worst enemy. Yet I gotta respect him for trying so hard and truly wanting the best for his entire family. Wish it coulda worked out...

I think it’s fuckin’ tragic. Going off of Fire and Blood, it’s clear Viserys is forever destined to be seen as a middling king or an inferior ruler, because his dynasty is basically comprised of decisions (or a lack of decisions) that leads to the deadliest civil war in Westerosi history. I think the show runners did something beautiful by making Viserys so likeable and relatable, so human and self aware. We get frustrated by him, then we understand him, then we pity him, then we root for him. He is ultimately a patient, kind, family driven, dreamer. But none of those likeable and admirable attributes will be remembered by ANYONE within their history, as evidenced in the F&B book. It’s… it’s really sad when you think about it, but I suppose that’s life for many people. After all, how many great leaders of nations, industries or societies are remembered as being incompetent or are burdened with the title of leading a people to ruin or failure or war, and alternately nothing of who they were and how kind or well intentioned they may have been remains on the page. History isn’t kind to simply ‘average’ or ‘decent’ people, for the most part.
