AOT subbies crew mourns our heroes...

Last night's episode broke us all. It was one of the most powerful endings for AOT so far and strong manifestation of unity and hope. We are beyond thankful to Hajime Isayama, who imagined these characters and brought them to live for all of us to awe, loath, root for, and be forever inspired by.

Rest In Peace, Keith Shadis, Commander of the Survey Corps.

Rest In Peace, Theo Magath. Marleyan Military General.

I love how you address Shadis as Commander of the Survey Corps and not just the 104th.

Erwin Smith

Theo Magath was misinformed like all Marleyans. Unfortunately, the ignorance led to graver consequences for him than most Marleyans. I'm certain Marley would have found someone else to do the job if he didn't, but in the end he was the guy on the job training kids to re-ignite a conflict that directly caused the events happening now. That is certainly against him. However, I think his convictions are strong and the consequences of his actions make him look horrific, but he was another Marleyan indoctrinated and foolish. He was no more heinous than many there. In the end, he found his way, and in life sometimes your path ends up being the more scenic route. RIP. And of course, Keith Shadis. Without him, the butterfly effect of plot changes would be wild. His impact on Grisha, Eren, the entire Training Corps. And the conviction to do what's right, even if it means killing a train full of your cadets. RIP

John Brooks

Theo was actually one of the few people who had a seed of empathy growing [toward the kids] among a society that harshly and relentlessly encouraged not only complete ostracization of but disgust and scorn towards Eldians. Flickers of this are shown a number of times before his turn: his hesitance to use the kids during the first battle at Slava, opting to use the adults instead; his unique belief in conscripting fellow Marleyans, that they might see the error of their ways; his respect and reluctance towards Tybur's sacrifice, which he even highlights is in contrast to the usual disdain of Eldians. I believe Theo Magath was quietly struggling with his growing appreciation for the kids and his fellow combatants' humanity, and how it juxtaposed his original propagandistic programming. And to his credit, empathy won out in -very- short order once he was actually confronted with his enemies in a casual setting, even though that new understanding would come at the dire cost of the self reflection that followed. In the end he decided that the most appropriate course of action was to ...burn up like dead wood, symbolically alongside the counterproductive ideals he'd lived by. The unexpected company of an Eldian at the end was a nice way to hammer in who he'd become. I mean I dig Theo alright.

I’m fully here to disrespect Floch, because he’s not real and he’s annoying AF. Gabi sniper queen did us a solid at the end of this episode 💪

I feel you Marketa, his last 72hrs just isn't enough for me to redeem his adult lifetime that inflicted so much pain and trauma on the world and on so many eldians. I definitely believe in an individual's capacity to change, it's something that I advocate for in my own work and life. I agree that, during this crunch time, the fact that he did change in the end is what's most important, these things are always better late than never. with that being said, he still cant garner my respect. seeing montages of him training children to obliterate entire nations and the trauma that he's inflicted on so many, and on the stockholm syndromed warriors, will never alleviate my salt for how terrible he was up until now. so I do applaud and accept his change, but I dont think he deserves respect. it's just a few decades too late in my opinion. lols, the discussions that this show brings up are frickin awesome and I'm so happy that y'all are watching this with us!

fair enough... but I feel like you are discounting people's capacity for change. even if the change comes too late, Magath did experience a full 180, and he was so convinced about this new path that he was willing to put his life down for it. I definitely agree with what you said and completely understand your feelings, but this is crunch time for humanity so we have to put a lot of value on what people do in this moment. It matters more than what people did in the past. - Marketa

no respect at all for theo magath. he did one redeemable thing in his miserable life, he knew that he was a piece of crap. he finally did something decent before he died, took out the ship and removed his hideous presence from existence. but the consequences of his actions will never be forgotten, he 100% left the world worse off than when he found it. his humanity finally breached when the well-being of his loved ones was at stake. better later than never. poor lil warriors with their stockholm syndrome. but mad respect to Keith Shadis. He trained children which resulted in their deaths to hopefully liberate future generations from the walls one day. he wasn't a fascist, he didn't know they were birdcage, and he didn't want students to become the fascists that they had become. respect for Keith Shadis. skip theo, he gets nothing but a headshake from me.

He deserved worse.

I think the difference here is these two willingly stayed on the boat, knowing what that meant. Very technically all of our heroes are risking their lives every day, and even in this fight, however there is a difference between dying on a battlefield and surviving the battle and then sacrificing your life so others can carry on the mission. I did not mean no disrespect on Floch. So many died and fought for what they thought was right. - Marketa

The Normies

I’d be more sympathetic to Floch if he wasn’t such a power trippy little shithead

SeymourAsces

Nice Edit: Though, the desperation on Floch's face can't be ignored so easily. Fearlessly charging through, made me cheer for him and his crew so bad.

Dan Heki

So you just gonna disregard Floch’s sacrifice like that I don’t stand for that SHINZO WO SASAGEYO

Nick

when do they usually post the peaky blinder uncuts?

RIP Shadis, more than just a Bystander
