This season is easier and easier to appreciate with rewatchings.

Don't be too hard on them most of them have no street bone in them so their reaction comes lack of knowledge on the subject and the toxic masculinity helps who in this situation it just will make him defensive

Kwame James

Their homeless rate is greater than that of the US? I call bullshit on that.

BetheSOUL

It's not that bad, but it would have been much better with Ed Burns and George Pelecanos on the writing staff. It's the worst season, imo.

BetheSOUL

The creators have all but confirmed it

It's this platform that is run by Pat. Calling a loser a loser is not bullying, it's a fact. @Sean, I know, I see him every week hogging a comment section where he doesn't belong. That is what makes him a loser. Also even when you're making the joke out of sarcasm at this point. You have become the joke because now you're the annoying person making the joke you tried making fun off.

Mike Drop

i think that is the point of shows, to get some sort of reaction out of it....

Adrian Bisutti

Hell they could kick you off Mike for bullying if that's the case. Also what's a patform?

iJashin

Mike Drop it’s a running joke relax

Sean

You're such a loser, I hope they kick you off the patform.

Mike Drop

Le Cringeeeee

L.C.

It's been 2 hours. Where's that Naruto??

SlumberGod

Oh look, everyone! It's toxic masculinity!

BetheSOUL

Some of you guys act to soft & emotional when it comes to these fucking tv shows/movies/anime

One of the stats that has been commonly cited recently in California is that it costs $33,000 a year to house a homeless person. There's been a lot of effort around this recently since Covid put a temporary focus on giving homeless people a place to keep themselves clean. This was also a way to temporarily alleviate all the vacancies that hotels had to deal with. Pat is absolutely right that it starts with housing first, and the rest of you are right about all the reasons why politically this fails. It takes someone in power with the willpower and the insight to compare all the economic and social costs of homelessness and its side effects on city budgets and property values to the $33,000 it would take to just house a homeless person for a year to get any movement on this issue.

Skip to the 4:30 marker. The writer was busy with another show, heard this was the year of the writers strike and the show just decided to end it at 5 seasons. I’ll try and find that video also when I have time. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Cw-nrCJ38t4

Joshua

Season 5 didn't have different writers...not sure where you got that info

outdoorcats

SEASON 5 Had different writers due to that huge writers strike era in television. HBO wanted more season but they unfortunately ended it like this, but I still think thanks to the outstanding acting the show ended good still.

Joshua

Unfortunately that was the year of the writers strike. They wanted more seasons but just went out like this and I still think it ended well and only because of the great acting.

Joshua

lmao at McNulty accusing anyone of being a supervisor's nightmare

Alex

That look Slim gave Cheese at the meeting. Just pure disgust.

Kamina 1

Season 5 unfortunately just had the misfortune of following 4 near perfect seasons of television. Don't let your discontent with the Jimmy and Lester's shenanigans distract you from the actual themes of this season guys. The best parts of your discussion was when you stayed on topic with the homeless problem.

Kamina 1

When looking at numbers, the "rate" can be deceiving but Pat got me to look at the homeless rate of various countries and it's kind of shocking. I consider places like France, the UK, and Sweden to have better healthcare systems and welfare type systems than the US yet their homeless rate is greater than that of the US. It's an extremely complicated issue that even the most advanced, forward thinking countries in the world are failing to deal with. The mental health issue alone seems like an insurmountable societal problem.

I was right with Suraj the first time I watched the season, but my feelings were tempered by how good the back half of 7 and all of 8, 9, 10 are. Which obviously wasn't true for him at this point.

You think this season is bad?? What? I think you see the situation as unbelievable when it's not even that much of a stretch. Personally it's one of my favourites.

Panos

So yall did not notice randys last namee "wagstaff' and cheeses last name is wagstaff one might think that cheese is a deadbeat dad

usher

Nothing in this season is more unbelievable than Hamsterdam, imo. S3 & S5 were both case studies in "what would happen if..." and it's always been a bit confusing that the serial killer is less "realistic" than a rogue major literally legalizing drugs. Maybe another episode or two helps ease McNulty and Freamon into the story, but the conceit of the season is not so ridiculous to me.

Mike

You can say what McNulty and Lester is doing is bad but does that really make it a bad season? I think thematically the plot ties in well with the newspaper story. We know McNulty and Lester are rogue (Lester literally starts this show in the pawn shop unit) and so this isn't out of character for them. I think it is rushed because of only 10 eps but I still think this season is fine. Suraj saying every show has a bad season implying this season is bad seems off but that's just my opinion :)
