i agree, honestly if the position was swapped, there's a very good chance that L woulda been the same. It's been said over and over again that Light and L were very similar. L is no hero, but in terms of the law, he is the hero and Light is the murderer.

Chris is right, L isnt exactly the hero here. He had no qualms about letting Lind L Taylor be killed, or any one else, for that matter. He will risk anyone and everyone to catch Kira. Also, Kira absolutely is the greatest serial killer to ever live, even after the first episode. By the end of the series (and I dont think this is a spoiler) the number is in the hundreds of thousands. But, in the wake of Kira, violent crime globally drops like 15%. So its actually a net positive, fewer people die overall. That is not a defense of Kira, just an interesting thing note about how the numbers work out.
