Diane didn't just create an alternative option for herself, she rejected all of giant culture and created an alternative option for giants in general. Modern giants like Diane and Dolores are literally progressives in an ancient traditional society, they want to do more than just fight like their ancestors have. With this decision ancient Drole is forced to realize that the culture he fostered of warrior honor only ended up turning him evil and probably killing most giants in general, whereas the culture Diane fosters not only kept her from becoming evil but also gave her a chance to survive the encounter. This is why Drole is so torn on his decision to join the commandments, he knows what he did was evil but he also feels like he had no choice because of his warrior culture. Diane is a perfect successor to be trained by Drole because she represents an advanced, intelligent, and peaceful giant race that does more than just fight and get themselves killed.
