Honestly in the words of Penn Badgley himself, it’s really about the mental lengths we go to absolve someone of their crimes when they don’t look like a criminal. Attractive, young, and a smart white man? There’s a subconscious reason why we keep defending his actions. Beck wasn’t the greatest person in the world, but she didn’t deserve to die, and even in this episode, we see that despite us knowing better, joe is always going to be surprise us by being the predator he is. Sometimes we have our blinders on to things despite all the red flags.
