Produce 101 Episode 3 - REACTION

Produce 101 Episode 3 - REACTION

Comments

Remember there are commercial breaks cut out so some "fake outs" were just going to commercial.

Christine Copeland aka Christine's Culinary Quest

Haha actually the term Justice League will be coming out next season in the Produce 101 S2 (boys). Also, some TMI This eps rocketed Yeunjung (snsd song) rank. And marks the downfal of Chanmi. Chanmi was really in the original line up for SNSD up to the last lineup (10members) before the cut it to 9, I suppose she would have Taeyeonโ€™s line in the 2nd verse, cause thatd be perfect. Also next eps, Jung Chaeyeon (snsd pink team) will make a new trend which is ENDING FAIRY thing.

Was literally thinking same thing but even I did a double take the first time!

Russell McInnes

"JYP-ness" I had to say that out loud before I realised ๐Ÿ’€

- It's completely fine. There are 101 girls on this show. We can't expect you to recognise everyone immediately. That's why we're here to help you out :) - Okay let's GO! Yoojung in A where she belongs! - I see a lot of people from Happyface Entertainment. That's been renamed to Dreamcatcher Company a few years ago. I wonder where these people are at now, since DCC hasn't debuted another girl group after Dreamcatcher. - I get it. Considering the music she does now, Pick Me really isn't a good song for Somi. - Yup. I.O.I debuted on 4 May 2016 and disbanded on 29 January 2017. Less than nine months. Though the first episode of Produce 101 premiered on 22 January 2016. So from episode 1 until disbandment it was one year and a week. Or rather, IOI disbanded exactly a year after episode 2 of this show. - Ok, since Pinky was mentioned: that's just a nickname. Her real name is Zhou Jieqiong. But we will probably mostly hear people call her by her Korean name Joo Kyulkyung. - Damn. Yoojung starting out in D and then moving to the centre position of A. - Yes! I just looked it up and the MCs of Mcountdown at the time were Lee Jungshin of CNBLUE, Key of SHINee, and Bambam and Jinyoung of GOT7. - Finally! A survival show that actually includes the signal song performance in an episode! Well, kinda. - This happens in every survival show. Some contestants leave by their own decision. Not that much to it. - Interesting, it's ALL debut songs here. Girls' Generation, Apink, After School, miss A, Kara, 2NE1, 4minute, Wonder Girls, f(x) and Sistar. Basically the whole roster of the most important 2nd gen girl groups. - f(x) was the SM girl group that debuted after Girls Generation and before Red Velvet in 2009. However, all members have left SM after 2016 and the group is pretty much disbanded (even if the members themselves won't admit to it). Amber Liu is the only one who still actively releases music today. But that's honestly fine, I like Amber's solo stuff more than f(x)'s group music anyway ๐Ÿ˜… Sadly they are also a group struck by tragedy as member Sulli committed suicide in 2019. She was a close friend of IU and is one of the people that IU's eight is dedicated towards. - Damn, this is honestly kinda violent - Ah, the classic debates about who gets the centre part. Very little has changed in eight years. - The fact that Kwon Eunbin (from CLC) gets spelled as โ€žEunbeanโ€œ in the subtitles is really bothering me - Who is this Ahn Yumi person and why does she look exactly like Taeyeon? - Guess what? Soyeon is still the best in Cube! Even moreso now that most of Pentagon and all of BTOB have left the company. Cube is gonna be in BIG trouble once (G)I-DLE's contracts run out next year. - Oh fuck, Juna was picked for 2NE1 Fire? That's certainly one of the more performance heavy songs here. - Kim Seokyoung! I had to look it up to confirm but she's the one from GWSN. So sad to see that group fade away into silent disbandment. They had music on a similar caliber as Loona and WJSN. - I'm currently watching the Evangelion Rebuild movies and this expressionless Nayoung is giving me strong Rei vibes - Im Nayoung being so neutral in her expressions is also oddly fitting to the character she plays in Flower of Evil. - Daniel, you have to remember, when this show aired, Man of Steel was still the only DCEU movie out. No one was even thinking about the Justice League at the time. - But even more than the Eunbin/Eunbean thing, I'm very bothered by the way that they're spelling WJSN's Yoo Yeonjung as โ€žYu Yeunjungโ€œ. โ€žYeunโ€œ doesn't even make any sense as a romanisation of ์—ฐ. - โ€žWho are you rooting for?โ€œ - *indiscriminate yelling* Apink โ€“ I don't Know - Kahi is harsh but I don't disagree with her. Pinky wasn't leaving much of an impression there. - And good call on changing the main vocal on the second team. - Both were good but I agree, the second team did better. - Damn. Even with Pinky getting removed from the centre part, she still got the most individual votes of them all. - Very anticlimactic reveal of the final score but ok SISTAR โ€“ Push Push - CLASS:y is indeed a real group. Though they haven't had a proper Korean comeback since October 2022 and that was their debut year. I wonder what's going on with them. - Man it's so wild to see Chungha and Soyeon like this, knowing the amazing heights they would both eventually rise to. - Of course Soyeon would be the one to just write completely new lyrics for the parts she messed up. - Chungha's presence is fucking insane. I can personally attest to that. And it seems like she always had that! - Both groups did insanely well. I think I might give a very slight edge to Soyeon's team but I'd be completely fine with either of them winning. - And Soyeon getting the most individual votes. Very deserved. 2NE1 โ€“ Fire - How funny would it have been if Jeon Soyeon had been on one of the Fire teams here - Holy shit. Guess I didn't have to be worried about Juna after all. - Again, really close battle but I'm giving it to the second team by a very small margin. - I gotta give it to Jang Keun-suk. He's a good on-stage MC. And I'm not getting those weird vibes from him here that he portrayed as a judge. - Okay, the audience's margin is not as small as mine. - Fucken hell, Juna carried HARD. - I understand why she was initially put in C (and later F) but god damn. I bet the judges were reevaluating their decisions after this. Girls' Generation โ€“ Into the New World - Those are some VERY enthusiastic fanboys. Just like me and the boys at Everglow last week. - Time Show? No, we're not watching Doctor Who right now. - Yup, that's the Yeonjung I know. - Yes, please do check out the original version of this song! It's basically Korea's second national anthem. - Yeonjung just yeonjunging all over the place. I think I remember endlessly gushing about her on Queendom 2 as well. Rightfully so! - Wow. Honestly, Chanmi would have fit into SNSD so well. Visually she reminds me of Tiffany and a bit of Jessica as well. And to think how different things would have been for her. She would've become one of THE top idols. But in this current timeline, I'm just now hearing about her for the first time while watching Produce 101, eight years after it aired. - What the fuck is this editing - HUH?!?!? - I was gonna say that both teams did well but that my bias towards Yeonjung is making me pick team 1. But with Chanmi actually messing up here, I actually feel more justified in my decision. - But honestly Mnet, what is the point of showing most of the performance only to cut it off right near the end? - This is pretty bad but it's not the worst bit of editing Mnet have done. I started watching Produce 48 a year or two ago and in the same round as this episode right here, they did an edit that was so despicable, so evil, so personally insulting that I ragequit the show right then and there. It was as if the editors held a personal grudge against Jang Gyuri and worked towards humiliating her as much as possible. Blowing up one simple little mistake of one missed high note to fucking astronomical proportions. The way she was portrayed completely shattered her confidence to smithereens. It was purposefully and actively malicious.

Marcel Wannieck

I love your reactions, although I am a bit sad you Still haven't recognized Yeonjung. She is the main vocal of WJSN, which you saw on Queendom 2.

At the time I participated or tried to see as many shows or live concerts as possible. but as most go through selection via applications it is quite hard to get places regularly. despite everything, I was lucky enough to get places in music shows about 3 or 4 times a year. - I was able to see, among other things, 2 live performances from Produce 101, including the finale which was memorable. - 1 live from unpretty rapstar season 3 (with Soyeon). - 1 live show of Show me the money season 4 - 1 live from produce X101 - 1 of produce 48 - and 1 from idol school - for the rest it was mainly music shows like music core or Inkigayo. but for the past 4 or 5 years my work has taken up a lot of my time and I can no longer see as many shows as I would like. covid also obviously played a role. โ€‹

this wonderful show that started it all (ish in survival... I mean Sejeong was handpicked by YG to have potential in KPS2 but yeah it didn't work, but still her and AKMU that is just gold), was not in any way meant for international fans, so much respect to the subbing teams for providing.... just a friendly advice, it will take you no more than 10 days to learn to read Hangul... TMI it took me seven days while working full time (so I don't necessarily know what it means but I can read it), later on I read that Sejong (legendary king who invented the language) had tasked his ministry to make a language a genius could learn in one day and a fool in 10... kinda felt bad about that... but still it is very very easy to read, and from that sorta guess a name, a meaning ofc takes much much more, but will say it makes watching this show a bit more fun, knowing the basics, as the names are mentioned without subtitles at the points ceremony throughout.

Wow, cool that you were in the audience!

- No need to apologize ๐Ÿ™‚ - Sorry to hear this cold is still messing with you - Yoojung going from D to the centre position of A ๐Ÿ˜Š - The power of a compliment: takes very little effort to give, but can have a huge positive impact. - It's funny to rewatch this show, knowing who will make it, to see how much (and what kind of) screentime they are already getting -> Mnet basically deciding/manipulating who will make it. - And here we have the birth of "Stone Nayoung" (the expressionless girl) ๐Ÿ˜… I'm sure she's not as expressionless as Mnet makes her look, but get ready for Mnet to make a case-study out of this one ๐Ÿ˜‹ - "Idol-ness". That reminded me of another reactor I watched recently who mentioned the "JYP-ness" before he realized how that sounded ๐Ÿ˜† - These shots of them practicing seems to all be in the same big room. How annoying must that be? Not only to see, and get distracted by, your competition, but also to hear their songs, singing, talking, etc through your song? I wonder if they even had mirrors. It looks very unprofessional and cheap tbh. Can't even give these girls a proper training room huh? ๐Ÿ˜’ - So this "Prince of Asia" is now also "the national representative" and a "CEO"? The guy must love having titles ๐Ÿ™„ APINK - I don't know - The way this high note stuff was shown was a little weird to me. The song has a long sustained note part, which, sure, is a bit high, but it is followed by a part that has an even higher note. So, when they talk about "the high note", I'm thinking about that 2nd one, but they showed/ put emphasis on the first one. It may be a translation thing and they were actually concerned about the long, sustained note instead of the actual high note. - Pinky got 98, Siyeon 97, Taeha 14 SISTAR - Push push - You are right. There's a group called CLASS:y. They were formed on a survival show called "My Teenage Girl" where, coincidentally, Soyeon was a mentor ๐Ÿ˜… - Cheetah about to pounce? I see what you did there ๐Ÿ˜ - Once again, Soyeon replacing raps with her own ๐Ÿ˜† - ๐Ÿ˜ฎ I think this is the first time I've seen Sohee on screen. She was a member of Nature (you watched Limbo and still have to watch "Girls" ๐Ÿ˜‹) - Soyeon 72, Sohee 69, Chungha 36 wtf? 2NE1 - Fire - A high kick, full split, and back bridge, while singing stable? Respect. - Juna 137 ๐Ÿ˜ฎ, Siori 9 SNSD - Into the new world - It's okay if you don't recognize her, but Yeonjung later joined WJSN as main vocal (and maknae). - Yes, I actually could hear the difference. Chanmi stretches out/prolongs her tones a bit, and also tries to do a little bit too much (dynamics? Like an experienced singer), which takes away a little of the clarity / power / straightforwardness, and thus the honesty/innocence which is the strength of this song. - "I need to check out the original". Yes...yes, you should. It is basically Korea's national anthem. Not even joking ๐Ÿ˜… - No matter how you edit this, Yeonjung absolutely killed it. - And Chanmi is probably the recipient of one of the evilest of editings, ever. Since the 1st episode actually. Shame on you Mnet. But they never learned ๐Ÿ˜”

-performance -Team White spring (a-pink) really good performance vocally this song is very hard it is very hard to reach the high notes of (Jung Eunji) but they succeeded well I like this team a lot of them were part of my favorites Pinky, Eunbin and Haerim aka (Elly) it seems DG that you don't recognize her. for Pinky she suffered from the same problem as Chaeyeon was also considered one of the 3 most beautiful girls in the program. and so everyone wanted to place her in the center and in the end they received bad comments like being beautiful is not enough to be a center you have to have skill. (which is not false) but it is not her fault that she is pretty. - Team Eyes smile (a-pink) even if I prefer the first group, the one if it was a bit above. Mina's presence is undeniable and Siyeon handled the high notes very well. yes DG there is a group called CLASS;Y which is the group formed after the survival My teenage girl. -Team Soyeon has these flaws but Soyeon is always getting stronger. Already at that time I was convinced that she would succeed; she had too much determination to fail. all the members of their group did well especially Soyeon and Sohee -Team Chungha in this group 2 members really stand out and have a strong Chungha presence of course but also Chin Kai who has very good pronunciation for a foreigner. -Team Lee Soomin I have always liked this girl she is very discreet but I have followed her in at least 2 or even 3 survival shows I like her personality and she is talented. but yes the whole group was very good. indeed if they had been a group it would not be shocking. -Team Park Soyeon I think that very few people pay attention to Sihyeon (everglow) because the editing is so focused on Juna that the other members become almost invisible even if they do a good job. the production really focused a lot on Jura during the first 3 episodes but for what purpose?? Park Soyeon was also very charismatic, all the Soyeons I know are like that, even among my friends I have 2 Soyeons and they both have a very strong aura. and a big character. -Team Chaekyung almost perfect performance the group had 3 very good vocalists and in particular Yeonjung (WJSN) who is probably the best singer of the program even ahead of Jura or Sejeong. -Team Chanmi having recorded and almost been part of SNSD is a double-edged sword for Chanmi who had no right to fail on this song that she probably worked on more than anyone else in the show . the result of this performance will decide Chanmi's fate. โ€‹

the group had a promotion of 9 months despite their incredible success only because of the lack of organization of the agency which managed them. They didn't expect that half of the members of I.O.I would be part of other groups at the same time. This created a lot of organizational problems and even forced the agency to make a comeback with a sub-unit. -Blackpink made this debut After I.O.I and given that they were not very present on TV BLACKPINK made a rather average debut. the 3 groups that dominated the women's division at the time were Red Velvet, Twice and I.O.I -I agree with Kahi. For Kim Juna she should have had a solo career. because even if produce 101 was a sort of training center, 4 months is very short to become a confirmed and competent idol. Most of the trainees already had a more or less solid foundation in dancing and singing. - speaking of Kep1er, they will soon reach the end of their temporary contract. but it seems that the agency is doing everything to extend the duration of their contracts. this will once again depend on the members' respective agencies. - the song Pick ME became an anthem in the country. I remember hearing this song everywhere. and full of groups and dancers performing pick me in the streets of Hongdae, Itaewon or Myeongdong. Choi Yoojung went from the invisible girl to the new sensation of the show in the blink of an eye. After that, all survival shows knew that those who won the center position in the theme songs of their survival show had a very good chance of making their debut. - some trainees simply gave up for their own reasons. the mentors mentioned it because it is the thing they respect the least. you may lack skills or be behind others, the mentors will do their best to help you improve. but they can't do anything about abandonment so they also take it as a personal failure. and yes DG you are right a lot of people only see the negative aspect of survival shows. but many idols, even those who fail, see it as an enriching experience that allowed them to grow. This is always better than being stuck in a small agency with no prospects for the future. Among those who failed, some were spotted by larger agencies and even made their debut. -Team Irony (Hyein leader) Hyein received a lot of bad comments due to the somewhat authoritarian way she managed her group by taking all the good parts for herself (leader, center, main vocal) -Team Irony (Sejeong leader) while Sejeong was more fair, attentive and caring with these members. Kim Sohye / Sejeong one of the beautiful encounters of the show Sejeong took a lot of time to train Sohye. I saw in a comment last week that Sejeong was a good dancer. It's false, she always has difficulty in dancing, she says it herself on multiple occasions. but as she has an incredible voice, a really very positive personality and a great stage presence, this never posed a big problem for her, she just had to work dance twice as hard as the others. -Team push push. Soyeon of course she is a leader, she is a born leader and a center. Already at the time people had heard about her. Cube's hidden gem at that time she had already written dozens of songs. -Team push push. Chungha and of course she too is leader and center. The battle between the two teams will be very interesting. -Team a-pink. Kang Mina has the hardest team to manage, she has a lot of very good singers in her group and they have a strong personality - Lim Nayoung she won are nicknamed Stone Nayoung or Stone boudha after this episode it seems like nothing she is part of the trainee who stands out from the crowd during the first episodes because she has a very different behavior from the others she is impassive and expressionless. -team SNSD Cathy has actually brought together a supposed Avengers or Justice League team. Chanmi's background and the fact that she was considered as a member of SNSD and had therefore worked on Into the New World was a big advantage. Chaeyeon (from the group DIA was very popular) and considered one of the 2 or 3 most beautiful girls on the program and Somi actually had an incredible fan base which had grown even more after Sixteen's unfair elimination. but of course a growing popularity is also accompanied by a growth of haters for Somi and of course Cathy herself who was also part of the Dia group had a lot of experience. - I was in the audience during their live performance during the first round and the final. It was a pretty unique moment for me. โ€‹

That's F***ing Elly! 1:02:54 who took center in the first Apink performance. I saw in the audition that there were a bunch of Weki Meki members there but I didn't recognize her since this is so long ago and she's going by her real name. But as soon as I heard her speak while I was looking away from the screen I was exclaimed that's F***ing Elly!!! apparently her real name is Jung Haerim. Also out of every kpop avengers team in every survival show this is the least impressive. It's just 15 year old Somi and some random other people. It's like they have the most Bs on there team so they think they're the best? Soyeon vs Chungha! I'm Super hyped. Lol yes there is a group called Class:y from another survival show that Soyeon was a mentor on :) My Teenage Girl was the show. Yeah Soyeon, don't cover Bora's(Sistar) rap just write your own damn rap. I'm biased towards both of them but I think Chungha did better. Also Chungha was just on the Daebak show this week. I eagerly await her comeback. How on earth did Chungha get so few votes on her team!? Mr. Prince is not a bad host in front of a crowd. With the 2ne1 Fire battle I appreciated your commentary. In this battle between 2 teams either team 1 is going to win or team 2 is... :) I was also shocked at how lopsided it was. Also when they show Juna messing up the formations in the practice and then during the performance they don't ever show any shots of the formations they probably didn't execute them. But you never know cause mnet editing. WJSN Fighting! Yoo Yeonjung is schooling all of these girls :) Best performance of the episode! Girls Generation's iconic debut song Into the new world has inspired generations of girl groups and is still great! Oh god no! I'm done with mnet's bullshit too. Everyone and there mother was expecting a fake out but I never dreamed that they would play 80% of the performance with half of it being reaction shots and then end the episode at the bridge of the song! There's only like 20 seconds left in the performance why the heck did you cut? Just take out the 20 seconds of mid episode previews for the current episode if you don't have time. They obviously did that on purpose. I was going to say that I enjoyed the episode as always but hell I'm done with this bullshit. I hope you feel better!
