2024-12-03 17:52:46 +0000 UTCLord Eddard Stark, First of his name, Lord of Winterfell, True Hand of The King, and Warden of The North. And now his watch is ended. I love how literally everyone but Little Finger was trying to urge Joffrey to not kill Ned. Cersei, Varys, Pycelle, and the others all knew that killing Ned accomplishes only one thing; pissing The North off even more. On top of that, they lose a bargaining chip. Joffrey is blinded by ego and power and it's mostly Cersei's fault. She groomed him to be like this and now that he is King(barf) Cersei's influence over him is greatly reduced. I also just realized that Ned killed his own honor for love of his daughters(Harkin back to Aemon sympathizing with Jon's plight in the previous episode) before Joffrey had Payle execute him, with his own sword "Ice" at that. However, Eddard did have honor; honor in fulfilling his end of the plea deal, but Joffrey wanted to flex. Tywin is a genuine monster towards Tyrion. Jaime, Tommen, and Myrcella are the only members of his family who actually treat him well. When even a man as cold as Bronn hears that and says "That's fucked up." you know it's FUBAR. Robb outplayed Tywin wonderfully here. He knowingly let the spy go to tell Tywin how many men he counted, but divided his forces. He made Tywin think he was attacking him head on, but was in fact charging his main forces to liberate Riverrun. This he gained The Tully army to his cause. Sure he lost 2000 men, but he gained at least double that and captured Jaime Lannister. I also do not consider Robb a coward for refusing Jaime's offer of a duel; Robb simply knew he'd lose and even if he did win it would only piss off Tywin and condemn Sansa and Eddard to death. Robb is a smart dood for such a young man. In the books I think he is like 16, but in the show he's maybe 20 something. The show made the Stark kids older, which I think was a smart idea.

2024-12-03 14:50:35 +0000 UTCSlight changes from the book, in there Tyrion took part in the battle, and was actually in the roughest part (fighting and killing an enemy soldier) as his father used his hill tribes as bait to lure out the Stark forces, but since this is Season 1 of the series has a limited budget they got around having to show the battle by having him knocked out. But yea, here is where the story actually starts its reputation for actually killing off main characters, which almost never happens in most books/shows. A lot more tension in storytelling when anyone could potentially die rather than assuming named characters make it to the end.
