Rise of the Exalted 0.1

It's ALIIIVE!

Thanks everyone for your patience during the pivot. My next priority is getting events and faction leaders into the game, but once that's done, democracy will resume as well.

Download (Warning: Saves are borked, and won't work until a hotfix (probably this weekend)

Rise of the Exalted

You play as a world-consuming parasite with nothing but a host and the walking cathedral you call home. Conquer your way across a dark fantasy world, build your base, and breed an army capable of bringing this plane to its knees.

Gameplay-wise, it is a 4X game played from a first-person perspective. Construction and conquest happen on physical tables in the environment with traditional top-down interfaces, but interactions with residents happen face-to-face by hovering up to them and talking.

Manage Captives:

Captives (from raids or conquest) are your primary resource. Drain them of life force to power your magic, deploy them as your vanguard, or just sacrifice them on the spot.
If you infest a captive with a parasite, they become an Exalted Drone, a more powerful being that is psychically linked to your will. They will be your generals, your inquisitors, and your concubines.

Build your Base:

The main floor of your cathedral is a city. The first alpha has six building types, but there is a lot of opportunity for growth here, and I expect there to be dozens by the end (I have things ranging from dairies and fighting pits to glider bays and summoning circles in my design doc, and I expect this to become at least as diverse as Stationmaster over time).

Construction happens from the top, but most interactions with your residents are face-to-face for that personal touch.

Conquer the World:

By infesting the leadership with parasites, you can bring farms, cities, and nations under your permanent control. Controlled settlements will send a steady stream of resources, and can be upgraded for increased production or defenses.

The factions are barebones for now (they will only declare war on you if you draw their ire by taking settlements), but future updates will bring more options for diplomacy, as well as faction leaders with distinct personalities.

I believe the captives take a while to show up on an extractor or any building. I know I went and clicked around the map for a few minutes and then checked the extractor and it did have a slave on it. Also slaves apparently can die from being on the extractor for too long. Unlike Stationmaster where you can automate things and see more or less everything this could get annoying if you try to use it to improve loyalty.

Having almost the same setup, maybe that issue is fixed in the meantime

Tollcoyote

Nice so far, but also get crashes after a couple of minutes at totally random locations.

Looking good, can't wait for all the other features you plan to add! wondering if anyone else has problems with the audio controls? the screaming gets irksome after the first few minutes and the sliders dont seem to work on my game

Rysen 7, 16gigs of ram, RTX 2060, Win 10. It just locks up after about 2 minutes, interacting with a slave. Don't know whats up with that one. As guy says above no sound volume sliders.

Yah, main menu volume is WAY too loud be default Other feedback (I'm not going to comment on things that are obviously placeholder, I realize this is just an alpha) * A basic tutorial or how to play would go a long way. Getting dropped into a dark room was a bit awkward * Felt a bit dark in lighting. I realize it's the theme but lighting could be better in critical areas like the blueprint table and harem * Not sure if this is placeholder or expected, but I built an extractor and assigned a couple captives to it and they did not show up in the real world, and they really should * A minimap would be a nice feature going forward. Not critical now, but as the game expands, I can see navigating around to find stuff in your city could get annoying * We seem to have the same invisible restraint thing going on here as Stationmaster, and I am really hoping this is something that will be fixed here (was one of my biggest issues with SM, besides the clipping issues on clothing)

I spent about ten seconds in the main menu. One minute later and my ears are STILL ringing. Unfortunately the volume sliders don't work.
