0.24: IT'S ALIIIIIVE - Preliminary Design
Added 2019-07-19 22:13:52 +0000 UTC0.23 is building, so it's time to get started on the design for 0.24. The vote was not close, so I'm going to call it early and say that the next update is going to be the Living Galaxy option.
Preliminary Design (Subject to change, as always):
Minor Factions
There will be many new minor players on the galactic stage. They will each have some combination of events, ships, and leaders. Some might even hold territory.
- Liberty is an abolitionist insurgency. They're dangerous, but too small to fight major factions directly. They rely on blackmail and terrorism to achieve their ends.
- The Order of the Sleeping God is a cult dedicated to a strange and powerful entity that supposedly patrols the edges of the galaxy. It's probably just superstition though.
- Sirens are kidnappers who use a mix of elaborate planning and expert stealth. It's said that they can take nearly anyone (for a substantial price, of course).
- Brimstone is a well-known travelling arena. They move from place to place, running lavish and blood-soaked shows.
- Flotsam is a wandering armada of barely-functional trading ships. They often have interesting trinkets for sale, but don't ask where they came from.
- The Artificer's Guild is an eccentric order of scientists, artists, and engineers. They have excellent toys for the right buyers.
- Harmony is a group of mostly-Fae zealots fighting an unknown enemy. Their cathedral ships emerge infrequently to resupply and recruit, but primarily reside somewhere in hyperspace.
- The Forgotten are mindless creatures bent on destroying everything they see. Their origin and purpose are unknown, but they appear to have once been human.
Exploration Events
Some planets will have anomalies on them that will show up on routine scans after conquest. These could result in artifacts, slaves, or upgrades for the attached planet.
Non-Violent Planet Takeover
With enough money and influence, you will be able to purchase planets from their owners. The price will be high, but it will allow you to take planets without destroying their productivity.
Edit: I removed the Exo Liberation Front because, on second thought, they're kind of dumb.
