Stationmaster 0.23: For Science! - Draft Design
Added 2019-06-02 21:16:43 +0000 UTCNow that 0.22 is all wrapped up, it's time for me to get started on the better progression update. I think this one is long overdue, and should really improve the distinction between early, mid, and late game.
Research System
The core of this update is the research system, which allows you to unlock furniture, planet upgrades, and various other things over time. There will be three ways to get at most technologies (some will only be unlockable by a subset of these):
Laboratories
This update will add a new room, the Laboratory, which will allow its assigned slaves to discover new technologies. This will be coupled with a tech tree, which will allow you to direct their efforts towards whichever goals you see fit. Certain artifacts may also speed this up.
Conquest
Some planets will have technologies that you can capture by conquering them. Certain "capstone" upgrades will only become available by conquering entire factions, but the rewards will be worth it.
Interrogation
Certain slaves with technical backgrounds will have knowledge of advanced technologies. If they're obedient, they may give you the knowledge freely. Otherwise, well, you might have to push.
Other Stuff
Higher-quality slave markets will be unavailable until you've reached a certain reputation.
Several secret projects (truthfully, I'm not sure how many of these will work, but there are a lot of fun little mechanics on my list).
Comments
I thought that was supposed to unlock tomorrow...
