0.8: Transformation and Quality of Life

0.8 is officially complete! This feels like a major milestone, not only because it was the first update containing a stretch goal (actually, it had two), but also because the graphics and interface updates address a lot of things that felt like they were missing before. It's starting to feel like a complete game now, and it's largely thanks to all of you.

Special thanks to the beta testers (especially LaceOnLeather, KVBismarc and lodadsaq) for their help in finding bugs before this release. You saved everyone from the attempt that only worked on my machine.

Changelog:

New furniture for Slave Quarters:

Pharmaceutical Fabricator: Allows you to give your slaves hormones that will change their appearance over time

Autodoc: Unlocks implants for your slaves, which have functions ranging from sexual implants that increase their worth in the brothel, to training implants that build obedience over time

Surgery Center: Allows you to dramatically alter your slaves' appearances from the inspection screen, and unlocks advanced implants

Chrono Chamber: Allows you to change the apparent age of your slaves (within obvious limits) or make them immortal.

UI Changes

Added option to change clothing and hair on slave inspection screen

Added hormones, surgery, aging, and diet options to the slave inspection screen

Added a slave list, which provides information on assignments and stats

Added basic camera controls to the slave view. Hold the right mouse button and move the mouse to orbit the camera, and use the scroll wheel to zoom.

Misc Content

New slave markets: "Bigger and Better" and "Sunset farms," selling chubby and mature slaves respectively.

New secret event triggered by one of the implants.

General Enhancements

Significant improvements made to performance and memory usage. Beta testers are now reporting that the tourist flood that caused an eventual CTD is resolved. The game should also stutter much less when new people arrive at your station.

Dramatically increased range of allowable bodies for slaves. Weight now ranges from anorexic to obese, and height from dwarfism to gigantism. Breasts can also be made significantly bigger than before.

Brightened up the station by adding overhead lighting and reflections

Lactation is now a sliding scale, and profits from the dairy are adjusted accordingly.

Slaves now slowly age and depreciate in value unless they are made immortal at the chrono chamber

Fixed a bug that caused walls to block bulldozing and building, making building feel less finicky.

Idle slaves, citizens, and tourists will now wander your station instead of standing in a pile like a bunch of lemmings.

Fixed a bug where thousands of instances of your station could appear on the galaxy map and give you lots of money (yay) before corrupting your save (boo).

More tiny fixes and improvements than can be easily listed here (including all known bugs from the beta).

Good to know. I ve played a bit more though still not as much as i would have wanted because of...well life. One thing that came to mind though is that the scope of your game is already tremendous, being able to reach hundreds of slaves rather quickly. So i m wondering which route you fancy the most in the long run : keep on pushing that scale and sacrifice accordingly or rethink the game progression to maybe make it harder or longer to reach such numbers and have more focus on individual slaves ? Atm, i d say it s a bit too easy to achieve being that uber space pimp and thus i quickly pass from one slave to another as they re also pretty easy to manage. I know it s still early in the game s life but i think it s still something valuable to have in mind as progression and feeling involved is imo center to video games.

And the batch sale will likely be included in the 4X update.

Yeah. I'm still working on memory usage. It's a complicated problem, but I'm slowly making headway.

and another thing, this game consumes alot off ram memory when you starting to get around 300-400 slaves in your station (noticabel when you finish a raid and going back to the staion)

have been trying out the game for about 20 hours, one thing that did consern me is when you get 500+ slaves and going out capturing planets is that you need to ensavve em first, then sell the slaves one by one. Maybe an option to sell em off when you get back from the raid/worlddomination instead off doing i 1 by 1?

Hey all, On the reputation side, I think you're right that the late-game interface needs to be reworked. I plan to add an adjustable citizen visa limit during the 4X overhaul update (the one after the Exo Market), which should help with that a little bit. It will also allow you to prioritize so you don't have to deal with citizens and tourists if you prefer to get your money from raiding. Slave list sorting is the most requested feature from this update, and I'm hoping to work it into 0.9. Bulk slave selling will likely have to wait until the 4X update, and the rules assistant will likely be the update after that (because I don't have a lot of time for 0.9, and the 4X update is going to be huge as it is). As for Dsil, thanks! It's in the plans (actual walking and idle animations are prerequisites for the update that lets you walk around your station), but I'm not sure when that's going to happen. It's not a Unity limitation, I just need to implement it, and it's fallen a bit down the priority list.

Hey SMD ! Finally suscribed as a patron because yeah i really like what you re doing here. I see your monthly has grown quite a bit sinxe you first shared about your work on reddit which is amazing. I was wondering if it would be possible to have the station look more alive, with maybe slaves showed going from one place to another, civilians interacting with other NPCs, etc... or are those hard limitations with unity ?

I'm not sure if it's intended or not but I managed to get like over 100k of reputation being worshipped all over, there is few issues with that: I had to build over 300 or 400 upper-class apartments which is very tedious and generally makes the game stagger a bit when going from conquering back to base (on average i7 gaming laptop), your income starts going mad due to haveing so many citizens and you can build anything and buy anything. Another issue I've encountered is that if somebody buyouts planet from you for 5 mil it's still yours (there is no change). I hope that you may push 2 things into 0.9 as t will make game more enjoyable 9some way to sort list of slaves), ability to sell slaves or get them implants and so on before sending them off because it's very tedious to search for slaves and modify them after that remembering the names of new slaves and in some future verson some sort of minimap for base so you can navigate it a bit more efficiently
