It was used exactly once and made the god of magic cut off access to all spells above 9th level... Because it killed the previous god of magic and damaged magic itself. It also killed off a whole society, the society of the guy who invented and used the spell.

2023-03-31 13:46:27 +0000 UTCThe creator of Overlord is a big D&D fan, the magic systems in Overlord are based around D&D (in terms of spells having levels and limited use of abilities each day). Most of the spells they use are variations of D&D spells as well (for example mass hold person is a D&D spell, vs the mass hold species Shaltear used). The similarities also extends to races, Shaltear is a vampire, and uses charm magic, similar to how Silas Briarwood in Vox machina was also a vampire and used charm a lot, given that it's a inherent trait of their species. It also shows just how OP Ainz is as in D&D the highest tier of magic normally available to players is level 9 magic, and Ainz can use level 11 magic.
