Don't know if you caught it, but when it shows him walking out of the prison there, it's winter and he's wearing the clothes as when he met Otose. That means that the previous head executioner let him out of prison, and immediately after, he wandered to the graveyard and met Otose., which you saw in episode 12 and in the Four Devas Arc. Gintama basically tells Gin's full back story, but in scattered parts, and you have to piece them together.

2023-02-15 17:25:32 +0000 UTCI think this arc shows why Gintoki never really likes or is proud of his nickname "White Yaksha/White Demon" as he gets older because he wants to go his own path as a human, not as a demon, and rescues people with his own sword rather than being a killing demon. Now Gintoki found people in his life again that made him human :) "The only beings capable of turning people human again are neither demons that take human heads nor Reapers that take their souls, but humans who can server their sins to save their souls." I love this mini-arc so much
