The commander would kill himself and his enemy would guarantee the safety of the men under his command as well as his wife and children. Orte clearly is more like Europe, where if someone surrendered in a hopeless situation. No one would blame them, they might be taken as a prisoner of war or as a hostage in order to exchange for the winner's own prisoners. The concept of ritual suicide would have been unheard of.
