The Owlery - How Did Sirius Get the Firebolt?

J and Ben answer the question - How did Sirius acquire the Firebolt to gift to Harry?

Comments

Am I the only one who initially thought Sirius stole the firebolt? Lol

She was always mean

Hagrid wasn't sent to Azkaban as a child. He was sent to Azkaban years later during Chamber of Secrets. At the time of Myrtle's death, Grindewald was rising to power, but not relevant to Hagrid's case.

We don't have another case of a student being expelled to compare it to, so can't really say "definitely". There were a lot of factors at play in Hagrid's case.

UnfazedPhoenix

He sent crookshanks with a note. No joke. It's insane lol

We don't have another case of a student being expelled to compare the situation to, so can't really know for sure. Hagrid was suspected of being responsible for the death of a student via a magical beast. That is a crime in this universe. There was no concrete evidence though, just Tom Riddle's word against Hagrids, so that gave Dumbledore more leeway to pull strings. (the prejudice against Hagrid for being a half giant didn't help him either) Theoretically, Dumbledore was most likely able to keep Hagrid out of Azkaban with the compromise of expulsion and snapping the wand. He repaired it later with the Elder wand as we know Hagrid has his wand in his pink umbrella. It's mind blowing to me that Death Eaters or people who commit murder, torture etc. don't get their wands snapped though. That should be automatic.

Am I the only one who thought Mrs Black died of heartbreak after Regulus died?

Sarah Jane

Wait, did Sirius' mom die thinking Sirius was actually on Voldermort's side? Would this mean that her portrait only became really mean when Sirius returns from Azkaban and learns the truth?

Iztari

I am almost completely certain that Hagrid's wand is broken because he is a student. He wasn't a fully trained Wizard, so he wasn't trusted to keep a wand. it seems like students who are expelled get their wands broken. Criminals do not.

Seth Barham

I say that Hagrid's wand being broken is unique because he was both expelled and sent to Azkaban. And being expelled might be what gets your want snapped. (Or both, or was part of the punishment). Also, was Grindelwalds influence relevant at this time?

I can’t remember which book it’s in, but Harry asks Sirius how he managed the order and Sirius says he ordered it by owl in Harry’s name but “told them” to take the money from his(Sirius) vault. I don’t think he had to go to Gringotts.

Audrey B

Ooh! Good point! I didn’t remember that until you mentioned it! 🤯

Yeah it's definitely because Hagrid was still in school; their wands are snapped when they're expelled. It's not about Azkaban

Tania Jacquier

I think they snap hagrids wand because he never finished school so is not a qualified wizard

Joshua MacDonald

I don’t get when you guys say that they snapped hagrids wand because of how big he is because in Order Harry gets a letter saying that someone was coming to snap his wand

Samuel Kay
