Here’s an introduction to the Nortiks in Dan’s own words:
“ It is believed that the ancient species that first colonized the galaxy were ancestral Grey aliens. Since then, the species has split into two: the modern Greys, and the Nortiks. Greys went on to join the Empire, an interplanetary government based around a shared military and policies. Meanwhile the Nortiks formed the Pacifist Union, which seeks to forcibly civilize the galaxy by subjugating planets and systems. Nortiks are tall, intelligent, long-lived, and often have long hair and beards (which can help distinguish them from the hairless Greys). They are also known for their primary weapon, the electrolaser (a gun which utilises plasma to fire a bolt of lightning), and their distinctive saucer-shaped transport ships. On worlds close to the Union, it seems like everyone knows someone lost to an abduction. No one knows exactly why they take humans, only that once the Nortiks take, they’re never seen again. The Nortiks are the bad guys in my book, The Asteroid Field, about two people from Earth who fall through a portal and end up in a Star Wars – style galaxy.
