Sophia
Added 2024-08-13 02:53:02 +0000 UTCAs I've been bouncing ways that the next scene will go, I came to a realization about what was wrong with Sophia's character as I had it envisioned initially: She was starting at the end of her arc. That's ok in some cases - it's a feature, not a bug, when talking about immortal supernatural characters like Aubrette and Cindy are essentially static and unchanging - but in her case the shoe didn't fit. Worse, when I started looking at her actual timeline in my head, there's no way she would be where I was trying to write her yet.
The super short reductive version of her character is: She's broken. She's had bits of her psyche removed, and new bits added in, over the course of several years. Then she was given the power to make her own changes, only to learn that there were restrictions in place that prevented her from making some of the changes she might once have wanted, and discovered that her new, changed persona wants different things than she used to.
That's actually a really neat and compelling story/character arc to explore, and I want to do so - but it also doesn't exactly fit the general mood of Magic Notebook thus far.
Hence the poll below. I see a couple different ways I could go from here, but I'm curious what you, the readers, would prefer to see:
